My 8 year old spells better than that. Of course the Tories are frightened of the Youth vote so I wouldn’t expect anything else
This maybe a controversial one but I do believe in the Brexit referendum there should’ve been a age cut off point. It’s the youth’s future a referendum as important as that one effects.
TBF I would wager if we are honest virtually nobody on here was ready to vote at 16. I certainly don’t think I was mature enough
I refer you to one of the Farage threads about comments from more mature sections of our population. I think a lot Of our younger generations are more politically clued up than ever.
I have to be honest and say I’m not convinced, there is no doubt today’s youth have a lot more to say about Politics than other generations, but where do they get their info? I would guess most gain there info from Social Media or media driven sources, which given how we all accept this can be used to manipulate and influence people. I would be attempted to be more open minded about it if it were say 18year olds, but not 16. I have a child who is 16 next year and her and all her friends do not have clue about Politics, Parties and what they stand for. Always exceptions of course but not convinced it would be the norm.
I get your point and of course many 16 year olds won’t be too hung up about Politics but in recent years many are becoming forced into it as their futures become less and less uncertain
If the state deems you old enough to join the army or to have kids then you should be old enough to vote.
It seems this thread tends towards basically advocating the enfranchisement of those who are more likely to vote labour, and disenfranchising of those those who might not so vote. Which seems a bit desperate. But there are worse tactics I suppose.
And have a pint? and drive? Can we have 16 year old MPs running the country? It's rather quaint that our own dear club is crying out for experience within it's ranks because the young 'uns lack nouse, yet there is a clamour for youth when it comes to being able to vote in an election. I knew nothing beyond my own selfish world when I was 16. Yep. nowt's changed!!
Do you think it's fine that people should be sent off to war in the name of the country without having a say in its government? Because in my mind that's ******* mental.
My point wasn’t exclusively that, but yeah, The Tories are frightened of the ‘Youth Vote’ that’s the desperation
Check the thread. There aren't that many posters on it. I make it 3 though, if you follow their drift. Which is not a deluge I admit. I just think 16 to vote is not quite right.
I saw someone post on Facebook today that 16 year olds are too stupid to vote & in the same post she said she wouldn’t be voting for Jeremy Corbyn as he supports terrorism. I couldn’t believe what I was reading
Not allowed to join up until 18 without parents permission, far too many things you can’t do at that age that are less important than voting, work and drive being two examples. Legally both United Nations and UK identify a child as being someone under 18. If they are going to be allowed to vote then the law needs to change first
