I have never heard such clap trap from a manager in years.
It wasn't so long ago that Dean Windass at £250K was a transfer target and Ritchie didn't give a monkeys about being loyal to the players then. He then let Burns go and don't bring in a replacement.
When other teams are strenghening Ritchie is saying carry on as we are lads lets keep throwing points away but lets be carefull, we have got to do just enough to convince the fans that we are going for a play off spot, then when we fail to get promoted we can say last season we were 14th and this season we nearly had a promotion spot, havn't we done well.
We must be the only club actually weakening the squad and not strenthening it.
We are throwing points away and all the manager can do is say you have got to be loyal to the players. The midfield is crying out for a replacemant for Burns and we need a bloody solid centre half.
This league was ripe for the taking and we seem to be doing all we can the avoid going up.

"The midfield is crying ut for a replacement for Burns" Couldn't agree more - but wasn't it you telling me he was **** three months ago and that Kell was way better??
Hear hear....................except. It's aimed at the wrong fella. I think Andy would love to have kept Burns and is just saying what he's been told to say.
RE: "The midfield is crying ut for a replacement for Burns" Perhaps Ritchie is not replacing Burns yet, because he believes Richard Kell is his replacement?
Maybe Richtea has seen something in training or summat that we havent?!
We dont know what he's thinking do we, he's done well up to now, havent got any complaints about any of his signings as yet, so ive got full trust in him.

Burns didn't want to go............ but he had the opportunity of international football for Australia in the World Cup and he couldn't get it playing for us.
I say well done to him for taking the chance that he had.
I sincerely hope it comes off for him.

RE: Burns didn't want to go............ Some people will believe anything....he did'nt want to go well he went...did we want him to go? ...no FFS Jacob Burns went at Jacob Burns own request ,which is where Andy Ritchies loyalty theory goes up in a puff of smoke (although I suspect Windy is right here and its not necessarily his own idea),but if we are playiong loyalty here it should cut both ways international chance my arse as if the half dozen games he might get change the Aussie coaches mind.
RE: Burns didn't want to go............ AR wants to stay loyal to the players but will the players stay loyal to him if we dont go up I dont think so some how. And we will be back to square one assembling a whole new squad of players! We need 3 new players a centre half and midfielder who will get stuck in and a 20 goals plus a season striker imo But what do i know?
its a fact of life,,, that in a management position you have to be ruthless to get to your aims and achivements.... IF, the club WANT promotion and aimed to achieve that THIS YEAR, you would see him strenghtening the squad. It was stated at the beginning of the season in the chron that this was a "stepping stone" to next year, and part of a 2 year plan. Next year was the AIM. I sadly believe that the club don't really wan't to achieve this year, but run the risk of losing out of contract players at the end of the season. Then we COULD take a step back, and not achieve the AIM again NEXT YEAR. That is when ritchie will be classed as not achieving his aims, and you may see something different. This LOYALTY is ******, you should in management ALWAYS aim to improve no matter what the subject is, and if your overall aim is promotion, if you achieve a year earlier, you can increase your scope next term. In other words, you feckin plonker, there are players out their AVAILABLE that WILL improve the squad, and INCREASE the chance of promotion THIS YEAR. and we are all laughing at Sheff Utd. I can see one team. OLDHAM Come on ritchie, don't let you "nice guy" image, **** it up....
I agree with you. Mr Shepherd and his cohorts on the board, have to realise that they will never achieve the "BLACK" bottom line that they are desperate for, by staying in this division. It will only be achieved by going forward not by standing still and then going backwards, which is what is more likely to happen if we don't go up this year.
RE: "The midfield is crying ut for a replacement for Burns" No, Iv'e never said Kell was a better player than Burns. How can I say that when Iv'e not seen Kell play enough games to have an opinion on him. Mind you, who has seen him play enough games.

I still feel we should have brought a couple of midfield brusers in after Burns was allowed to leave. When I start to warm to Ritchie he opens his mouth and comes out with statements which say to me this is not the man to get the club moving again. He doesn't seem to be his own boss when he says "I going to have a chat with the coaching staff to see if we should bring someone in". Ffs he's the manager,if he can't see what the team needs then theres no hope.

For me its beyond contempt. We should have signed someone as soon as he knew Burns wanted out.
I don't completely buy the "chairmans lap dog" concept.
Sure, I can hardly see Gordie actively encouraging him to move in the transfer market, but I think its Richteas decision.
He's got two years to achieve promotion and his current strategy may to try to do it in just that.
I think however that its folly. Of all the promotion chasing teams we are the only one as far as I know that has effectively weakened itself.
Big mistake that I hope does not come back to haunt manager and chairman.
It may take a long time for us to get in as good a position as we were in not too long ago.

I dont think the club is being loyal to the players They havent offered any new contracts and by saying that they wont renew till they know what division we're going to be in they have basically said to them all that they are prepared to get shut at the end of the season.
No ambition is being shown and it isnt good for barnsley fc. We have got a better chance now than we have ever had of getting out of this division and we appear to be doing our best to **** it up.

agree 100%,loyalty any of the players will be off like a shot in the summer if they get chance, loyalty richie should be to the club,**** the players!
meaning??? if you are thinking about the fact that I said, fetch players in... well at the moment we are UNDER budget, ie burns has gone, and wages are free. Coupled with the fact that we exceeded in the FA cup, and not all that money has been spent. Then we can afford to offer silly money for an old grandad.... wheres the budget problem in my suggestion? Their are (or were) 2 players who would have made sure we pushed on THIS YEAR Magilton (still available) Horlock (What a miss that was) now would that seriously stretch our budget to making us go Bust? Don't think so, it would have put down any suggestion that we weren't serious, but should strenthen the push, and probably would have made it achivable this year... Loyalty gets you jack ****. (unless you shop with tescos etc) Footballers are not loyal in most cases these days, agents have put paid to that, but the club DO NOT show any loyalty whatsoever, by refusing to discuss contract deals now. Contrediction, is the word that increasingly gets spoken about at oakwell...
I bet the players think thre club is real loyal Whilst they are looking at the prospect of being without a club come the summer because of the club saying they wont discuss contracts.
does this mean that if we get promoted then some of the weaker squad players will be released? I bet they are really motivated every week...

RE: I bet the players think thre club is real loyal If they wanted a job for life they should have got a job at Tescos.
