Anyone had an LPG conversion and can you reccomend a decent place to get it done. Was thinking it would cost about 500? Any advance or advice pls? Thanks Foz
Depends on what car you have, usually costs anywhere from £900-£2000. You lose around 20% of your MPG using it, but as it's cheap anyway, it usually cancels it out. Better for big engines cars - you get more savings. On smaller cars, it can be quite indiffernet. What car, model and engine do you have, and what's your annual mileage?
RE: 5 door model - does this make a difference regarding where the tank goes? Well, a tank can be fitted in the boot, going accross the back of the seats (holds circa 70 litres). Spare wheel on rear door? Otherwise it could have gone in the spare wheel well (holds circa. 30-40 litres). And with it being a 4X4, they can sometimes be placed under the car, one at either side under the sill (if there's room - hold around 30 litres a-side). Boot install is ok, but swallows boot space, and causes probelms with long loads when you put seats down. Spare wheel is a no go if your wheel is mounted on rear door. Sill option on 4X4 is good, but you would have to check whether there is room. There is on Range Rovers, but a Rav 4 is smaller. Use this calculator from the LPG Consumers site. http://www.boostlpg.co.uk/driver_industry/Fuel saving 6.htm You may save around £700 a year. But you lose space inside the vehicle. Probably take around 2.5 years to make your money back on it. But you did higher mileage, probably take you 1.5 years. - Have a play around.
How did that affect the insurance? Home modifications tend to bump the premiums up alarmingly and failure to declare them could render your insurance invalid.
RE: Mr Ali Yeah, they're not rocket science to fit, especially if you've had 2 fitted in the past. But without a certificate of installation by an approved fitter, insurance etc is void, and also certain Ferry Companies won't take you. Plus, come re-sale time, you'll struggle to shift it.
RE: Clue to selling on True, but it still voids you insurance. It's like anything these days, need a ticket for everything! (NOOO)
