A bit better finishing from the Wigan forwards and we could have been easily been 2-0 by half time. However our defence was poor today except Maël, but Williams in particular had a nightmare, nearly gifting Wigan a goal in the second half. I thought bringing off Mctee and Cole was a mistake too as Watters was ineffective and Styles too. Let's hope the January window will strengthen the defence which the better teams are exploiting.... We shall see

    Terrible substitutions
Lost all the energy of Mcatee and Phillips plus the height of Cole and Phillips. Totally handed them the initiative after those 3 substitutions.

Not sure McCart did too much wrong. MDG was MOTM for me - starting to show some leadership at the back.

I was with you until "except Mael" - dear God, the guy who gave McGinnis three free headers that he should have buried in the first half? Possibly the worst defender I've seen at Oakwell since Chris Hedworth and to be fair to Chris he was out of his depth in the division above, not this poor one. This on the back of costing us the game at Posh too.

Agree that the substitutions today were ridiculous. McAtee had just almost scored a worldie and Collins decides that he needs replacing with Watters, wtf? And Styles not only is ineffective in himself he disrupts the whole midfield because he has to play left centre. We don't have a game for almost two weeks so there was no need to be resting anyone either.

With no game for almost a fortnight it's not as if he needed to keep them fresh. Those substitutions seemed to suck any attacking threat out of us.

Well.... I started watching Barnsley in 1987, just after the mighty Chris graced the red shirt. If your assertion is correct, that would mean that De Gevigney is the worst defender I, and anyone who started watching BFC at that time or later, have ever seen. I know that there's a certain amount of subjectivity in football, but he's not even the worst defender to have played for Barnsley this week. I can't be bothered to search through your posts, but I wouldn't mind a bet that you wrote Mads Andersen off as well.

Don’t remember many games where the defence as a unit has actually been good. All very good players individually but poor as a back three / five. I haven’t seen our defence play well at all as a unit this season.
