mate, I'm a staunch supporter of the lakes, if you want sun, then never go…. if you want unspoilt beauty, and a nice steady hike within reach of good amenities, go for cat bells helvelyn is a good medium range walk!!! the cinema and italian in ambleside are a good night out for a nice lake walk, you can't beat butter mere lakes in winter are awesome when there is snow about, but you've got typical lakeland weather (anything above 10 degrees and with rain)
Don't worry, Cumbria is still open for business....but it is a bit more difficult in some parts.......still raining at the moment as well
We are staying at Elterwater near Ambleside. Do you know what the state of the roads is around there?
Do the Coniston old man walk. Avoid Ambleside centre as it is too touristy and head to the smaller villages.
Bound to be bad as it's all up and down when you leave the main road between Coniston and Ambleside. I'd be amazed if you can even get there to be honest. Nice if you do though. Good luck
Are you staying at The Britannia...very nice, my wife's friend works at the Langdale complex nearby and apart from the week end when we had the main floods has been able to get to work......certainly no issues on the main roads in that part of South Lakes but some of the smaller roads might be a bit worse...Ive not heard of any issue on local radio but there are plenty of sites to google I guess for more in depth info....as has been mentioned avoud Ambleside, a town full of tourists and outdoor clothing shops, but Zefferelis is a good cinema/restaurant......
