first on at kubichek gig - rolling dog all the way from portsmouth ... usually sell out 400 capacity venue the wedgewood rooms down here so well worth getting there early
"The Paddingtons were riotous" Hmmm - £13 in. Band hated it. Arches, £8 in. Band want to come back. At the end of the day it's what you're after. We put bands on purely for the laugh of it and each and every one enjoy it. You've no idea the amount of people that have been known to say they hated playing there.
"There no fecking poncy restuarant here, it's a proper music venue and there's more here" Josh Paddington You're missing the point, The Arches is a full time music venue, the only one in Barnsley. We have been putting bands on before the Lucorum and we will be doing it long after they stop when it becomes less trendy to do so. We haven't got the money to risk as most of us do it for a hobby and for the love of it, we ain't after making money. When the Lucorum has 25+ nights of music per month i'll admit it's a better venue, they have 4 a month and all the same sort of music, we have SKA, Punk, Rock, Metal, Indie, Acoustic nights. We have the best PA in Barnsley, the best soundmen, and the biggest capicity in the town centre for live music. Not bad for a bunch of lads that have never run a pub before never mind converting a dump into a very good venue on VERY little money. It wasn't us sneeking flyers into their venue trying to pinch their customers, we wouldn't dream of doing that cos we don't need to. Plus everyone at The Arches supports Tarn
Sandman Nov 2006 The Arches appears to be a converted working mans club that is now hosting live music in Barnleys, and they can boast that The Paddingtons will be playing a Xmas gig there on 22nd December. Around the walls are paintings of famous muscians, such as Jim Morrison, Jarvis Cocker, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon (I presume painted by the very same artist mentioned earlier) and the cost of entry is a very reasonable £2. As a venue it has got a lot going for it, which is why the attendance was a little disappointing, it was a reasonable turnout of about 50 people, quite frankly the venue and certainly The Aux' deserve more with it being the best venue I have come accross in Barnsley trouncing more known competitors such as 'Citrus Rooms' If this Venue can put on shows as good as this it wont be long before its a stop on every touring bands poster... hopefully that will be something that will come in time for both of them.
RE: "There no fecking poncy restuarant here, it's a proper music venue and there's more here" It probably reminded him of 'darkest Peru'........Saxon - Sheffield City Hall this Friday
