Fair enough he's played 60 Premier League games but is he really worth nine times the amount paid for Stones?

They must have made over £70m on four players over the last eight years or so.

He's a current England international, although as we've seen that means nowt really, Stones had played 20 odd games at tier 2. The comparison would be with what Everton get if they sell him.

By the time he's done at Everton he will have played more than 60 games, will have more than three caps and will also have played in Europe. I still don't think he will go for more than that.

United are assembling a squad for a title challenge, just look how they had there pants pulled down with Zaha & Powell because clubs know Utd are aiming at big stakes and they'll pay through the nose to win title so every English player they buy they always pay over market value it's the only way they can get their man

That's all down to what someone is willing to pay for him, there's no exact science to a footballer's value.

The Shaw fees a joke as is the rumoured £25m for Lallana.

Southampton are one of them teams where they've done well collectively with no real stand out performances just a bunch of decent players on a similar level but now people are getting carried away & paying big money for players that should be in the £10-15m bracket.

Lovren, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Lambert, Rodriguez, Clyne, Chambers, Cork, Fonte etc are all decent players yet they only finished 8th. If Shaw & Lallana were £30m & £25m players they should've been pushing for champions league last season with the solid team they had around them but the truth is they aren't.

He's only young so could turn out to be a star but for a kid with 3 caps, no European experience & just 60 premiership appearances it's a ridiculous fee.

Soon to be turning in insipid performances for England then. Another kid ruined by money, too much too soon.

The thing is if it doesn't work out he'll end up as reserve to an Evra or another left back that they sign.

We've got too many of these talented English players who aren't starting enough for their clubs.

Milner, Rodwell, Richards, Jones, Smalling, Sinclair, Welbeck all fit into this & they represent just the two Manchester clubs.

2 seasons ago Smalling, Jones, Rodwell & Sinclair all looked quality prospects, since then Smalling & Jones look to have gone backwards through injuries & not having a position plus a lack of confidence & Rodwell & Sinclair are forgotten men.

With Gerrard, Carrick & Barry all 30+ & on the way out Rodwell should be in a position to be the holding midfielder for England, instead he's spent the last 2 seasons barely getting a spot on the City bench.

It's a **** state of affairs, there's no wonder we have a lack of players at international level. Shaw should be having at least another season at Southampton for me

We do they just don't get the chance or choose to stay in the reserves at big clubs & earn a fortune.

There's talent there, when they do get a chance / run of games all the ones I mentioned have done well.

The other big factor for me is that our players don't tend to go abroad because of the money on offer here. It must be a massive boost to have players who've experienced several leagues & come up against all different styles of football

English players are generally overpriced at any level, if you look at what simon davey did for us and went shopping in the bargain basements of Europe and beyond i firmly believe we got better value for money than if we had bought uk based players. obviously if you fail to scout properly its a bit of a gamble as we saw...

back onto Luke Shaw though, he fits the bill of what man utd need. English and young, which it seems you have to pay a premium for. we all know we got our pants pulled down with john stones. if we are comparing 60 premiership games against 30 odd championship games its maybe a little less clear cut. If stones is subsequently sold by Everton to man utd i can bet its a lot closer to 27m than 3m however

I am sure I heard on the radio this week that there are about 10000 brazillian footballers playing in other countries around the world !

I can believe it. They've got lads in that squad playing in all the top European leagues plus a couple in Russia / Ukraine & a couple from the Brazilian league.

It must be a massive help.

The only problem is there's not really a financial incentive for our lads to go abroad cos there's only Bayern, PSG, Barca & Madrid who can compete with City, Chelsea & United

Which is precisely why Dykes Idea of a B team operating in the lower leagues is a dumb idea. The problem is the top sides sign up all the potentially decent players but then instead of them getting good games in the top league they just dont play at all and dont develop - How would them playing 4th division sides help exactly

Somehow we need a cap on foreign internationals but EU rules make that difficult though I am sure a solution could be found if there was the will

We need to learn from the Saints academy, and possibly their bargaining people, as they have produced many good players over the years which they have sold for a tidy sum. This has helped them maintain their time in the Premier, which I wish we could emulate.

Made 72 tackles, one assist no goals all season. From 172 crosses.

So he got the crossing accuracy of JCR then and worse stats than Kennedy.
