Rejected a contract extension with Cheltenham. Goalkeeper who kept 11 clean sheets in a relegated side. Highly thought of and only 26. I’m not ITK but I’d imagine that he’ll be one we will take a look at with Clarke’s connection.
Given his injury, I imagine he's got something lined up to reject a new deal. From what I've read, he wouldn't necessarily miss much of the new season.
Cracking keeper for this level. Plenty of experience and still only 26. Be a great addition, just the obvious injury that's the only sticking point.
It would be a very "Barnsley signing" to sign someone with such an injury. Probably thinking of the wrong guy, but Richard Kell springs to mind? Signed him whilst he had a broken leg and never actually played for us iirc?
I have not seen any report as to how bad the break was, but a clean break can be easier to heal than ligament damage. I confirm that this is one highly impressive keeper at our level, especially as he got so much practice at Cheltenham last season. I would definitely sign him even if he were to miss a month at the start of the season, because this guy really is some keeper and Clarke will know that. Get him in.
On that basis then we should target Matt Macey who was released by Portsmouth. 29 years of age and 6ft 7 tall.
Usually I'd agree as I tend to like a super tall keeper but Southwood is very impressive. Moves so quickly across his line and off his line to cut things out.
My reply to you. I'd said Reading have a habit or re-signing old players. But when I double checked, only 1 of the 3 I had on my mind had previously played for them. So I deleted my reply.
