If he's not been offered a new deal by June, someone needs sacking and we need to sell him.

If he starts the season well, the club will wait til Christmas/January before making an offer. They'd call it "risky"

Nowt risky about offering him a 3 year deal. Proven and only going to get better.

If he rejects it, fair enough. Get shut while we can for some money - Peterborough exactly the right example for us to follow.

Spot on but you know we'll leave things as they are and lose him for nothing.

    Sold in January for £50.

I understood not offering Buttefield a new deal - guaranteed compo, not really done anything in this league until this year etc. Not a single excuse for Steele.

Surely Steele is a "no brainer", like, er, Nouble?

I suspect that our more-established players like Luke will be offered new contracts but at a lower wage than they were on - consistent with our 'cost-cutting' outlook. That may well leave Lukey with little option but to seek a club that values him more.

Which is absolutely fine - if we can't afford the wages he wants then let him go now when we can cash in.
