So say the Star, again. They've mentioned this twice, now. They must be confident for once. So much so, they say he's certain to leave us come what may. Also mention Bobby having numerous offers elsewhere. And regurgitated the Don remarks about Higdon/Stead. http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/foot...chase-for-strikers-higdon-and-stead-1-5785542
Steele himself said he'd only leave to go to a Prem/top Champ club so personally can't se him going to Donny Nothing for him there
Agree with Worsbro, he wouldn't leave to be straight in a relegation battle with a League 1/Championship yo yo club. Lazy journalism, they could do with listening to the Flicker interviews on audioboo.
One HUGE flaw in that report............Don Rowing is no longer a director of the club............i.e. the report is outdated and so invalid And with all due respect to Don..........we have now in Ben Mansford a person who is more experienced of working with football agents and is more likely to get Flicka the players that he wants
the way I understood it was : when asked about signing on steele said he wanted to go to a premiership side or a championship side challenging for a top 6 spot, so flickers said; no probs if that's what you want i'll not stand in your way BUT now you've said that, if you decide you do want to stay then heres your tems, in the meantime I've got to make plans for the good of B.F.C.. not heres a reduced deal if you don't like it then bye
This is something I cant understand............Steele saying he wants to join a Championship club pushing for a top 6 place....... ................................that will be Barnsley then ??? !!!
I'd be content with 6th. But I'm hoping for the title. I mean, if we're doing it, let's do it reight, sithi.
I....................................................................agree............................................sithi
But surely saying that theres no other Championship club he'd rather be at, and that he would only leave for Prem/top Champ then he wouln't go to Donny. No disrespect to Donny, but they're *****.
Don't think he's left quite yet. I believe Mansford has been shadowing him this week. (Monday I heard someone say)
Reading Flicker's comments in the Chron today, i'm slightly more positive than I was, that Luke might stay. Flicker should have managed his public comments differently, and I still think a 1yr contract is silly. We all know that. I'm less bothered about the money side - I have no knowledge of either the offer, or the Club's finances. A player will always ask for more, the Club will always offer less. That's negotiation. That said, Luke is not entirely without blame. And I realise plenty will not acknowledge that. He was quick to say he would consider offers from bigger clubs, if they came in. This was before any contract negotiations. Twitter comments were also reckless, referring to things like like 'had a letter, but no numbers as yet'. Both these comments were unavoidable and can't have helped. I'm still only about 20% confident he will stay...but last week I was probably about 5%. Would be as happy as any of the signings, if he stayed on. P.S. I really really really...really....want Bobby to sign
Say for example Steele was on £5,000. We offer him a new 1 year deal on a reduced wage of £3,000, taking his guaranteed earnings to £156,000. Donny (or another club for that matter) speak to his agent and offer him £5,000 on a 3 year deal, taking his guaranteed earnings, at a time (28) when he wants to be on as much money as possible, to £780,000. Which job offer would you take?
The 1 year aspect is the problem. We need to compromise on that IMO. Offer him same wage as we are now but for 3yrs. We can't lose, he will keep improving for a few years yet. If he doesn't sign on those terms then we all just move on.
Agreed mate. A couple of things working against us: 1. We have offered a 1 year deal on reduced terms, to a player who wants a 2 year deal (and is possibly at the age when he wants to maximize his earning potential) 2. He wants to play in the Premier league or play for a 'top' Championship club. So even if he cant find a Premier League or 'top' Championship club, he should have other clubs, maybe Huddersfield/Donny, willing to offer him similar money on a 2 year deal. But who knows. It was interesting listening to Flickers Radio Sheffield interview the other day when he said: "Luke Steele has been exploring different avenues, and other avenues, and when Luke gets to the bottom of that and sees where he is, then hopefully we can do some business there". "bottom of that and sees where he is" - no offers from other clubs. "do some business there" - signs the contract from us. Job done, money saved. Or another theory is that Flicker has to work within a tight budget, but also needs resources to build the overall squad. Making Ainwick number 1 and signing a young 'understudy' to him, could give Flicker more flexibility within the transfer market because he will have a higher percentage of the wage budget to play with.
The managers apparently said the reason they've done that is because they can't risk giving him a two year contract on the wages so why are you saying reduced. That's fine, I Don't want the club risking financial stability for LUKE STEELE. We the Fans have had to deal with the club reducing the wage bill over the last few years and now we are in a good position people want the club to risk financial stability over Steele. If he thinks he can get a better deal at Doncaster Rovers then let him go. He'll soon find that he can't. 49.40 hours and if he's got any respect he would have told the club yes or No.
