He had a great game. Bristol City were fantastic. Fast, skillful and incisive. Watching on ch5 I was quite envious.
Lee Johnson doing a superb job. Given time he’s proven he can improve clubs and especially improve players. What he’s done with Reid, brownhill, smith etc is really impressive. They look a class outfit.
Got to agree. They looked excellent, credit where it's due. I'll admit I never really took to him here, and wasn't bothered when he went, but we were firing when he did leave. Which made Hecky's achievement of continuing that run of form even more impressive to me.
I honestly said to my dad yesterday that Lee Johnson is actually a good manager.. & reason why I dislike him now is because he left us. Who knows? We could be where Bristol City are now? But I am grateful to Paul Heckingbottom for what he has achieved. With the takeover I hope we have more stability, I'm not expecting the new owners to go out & splash the cash.. but look what they have done with nice.. they have got some decent players and they were a below average team before
Didn’t think Steele covered himself in glory with their goal tbh. Goes in pretty much where he was stood, and zlatan hardly paggered it. Good game otherwise though. Seems smaller than I remembered!
Glad to see Steele doing well. On Johnson, there seems to be sets of fans, one lot who are convinced he’s always been a good manager & always will be & another that think he’s always been a **** manager & always will be. Most managers are like players, they do well in some jobs & poor in others. There’s no point rewriting history, he didn’t do a good job at Barnsley. He underperformed with that squad overall but at the same time he deserves credit for what he’s doing at Bristol now, should be about mid table on their budget & he’s got them challenging for automatic promotion, good achievement. And I’m convinced he wouldn’t have took us up. Let’s not forget we finished the last couple of months with Scowen at right back & Williams who Johnson had frozen out at left back due to an injury crisis. I believe the main reason we still managed to go up was because we had a former full back in charge who was able to help both players improve very quickly. And even if he did take us up he would’ve had the exact same issue with having to sell players, even a play off challenge wasn’t enough to keep the squad together.
I would not have backed them to be doing so well, especially under Johnson, but credit where it's due. Got them playing superb football, deservedly won last night and I wouldn't be surprised to see them go up.
He had a very poor second season at Bristol and they wanted him gone. Looks as though we are following suit.
