I dont have Facebook, but my mother does and shes on all the barnsley pages etc. According to her, someone's put on one of them that Luke Thomas is joining Bristol rovers...

Probably ******** as per usual, but what are peoples thoughts on him? I really liked him before his injury last season, sadly never really got his form back after it. But I'll be a little disappointed if we do sell or loan him out, as I think he'll definitely do a job next season

I doubt we'd be letting anyone leave until a new manager is appointed. Unless he has a release clause...

Wouldn’t begrudge the lad moving somewhere else tbh. If we’re not going to play with wingers it’s pretty much pointless him being here as it’s hard for him to get in to the first team. Be a shame to see him go as he was the best player in a few games last season and he obviously missed a lot of games getting injured.

He was in the first team, starting regularly, until his injury - in this system.

He's going to Swansea. He has family in Gloucester and it's closer for him to commute. Makes good sense really.

He was but then he got injured and we signed Adam Phillips, adopting a 3 man midfield so there was no longer a place for him.

Said in the chronicle they were expecting him to sign, along with the 3 youth players they have offered contracts to.

Spent 4yrs at Oakwell never cemented his own first place so not too fussed should he move on.

Looks like he might be good but rarely gets there. Had a few good games last season and (unlike in previous seasons) couldn't fault his effort. I was also very impressed with how quickly he got back from injury. He must have worked very hard, so good on him. But ultimately, I don't think he reaches the required level often enough. Having said that, I would have liked to see him have a go at wing-back but no one appears to want to play him there. Looks like he'd be a good fit to me, but we might not even play with wing-backs next season.

He has been here four seasons, and played under numerous head coaches without ever being much of a first team regular. I wish him all the best but think it's best he moves on.

I can see why you suggest him at wing back and ultimately i dont think its a bad shout. I would be a little skeptical about his strength and physicality when defending 1 on 1 though. Going forward would be great having an extra attacking option, but would require some really good defending positionally from our other lads at the back and which ever midfield drops deep to cover his runs

I think id offer him a contract. He's fine in this league, and id be confident we'd get some money if we moved him on if we achieve promotion. Cant fault his effort or graft last season. He showed real promise. As Jay said he must have worked incredibly hard to get back fit that quickly - if so thats exactly the olayer I want here, ones who are chomping at the bit.

I reckon he'll always get linked with Bristol Rovers because he was there before, but I don't think he'd want to work with Barton again.

I've never fully understood what some see in Luke. He's a trier, but I'd say league 1 is about his level. The sort of player we need to be improving in if we're going to become an established championship team again.

Absolutely zero end product which is a shame but the type of player that will get the ball forward at pace, good for the high press style we play...... If he found some goals or assists he would be in the championship no question, I guess that's why we bought him

It's a crime the amount of money paid for him .
For him to walk away free agent.
Didn't get much out of that investment, poor signing in my opinion regards the fee paid.

Not certain but ah think I saw a list when the retained names came out that included players offered a new contract and his name was on it...may be mistaken..

You were right ,but he will definitely get a better offer ,with him being a free agent ,no fee to pay.
