The Government is planning to add an additional lane to the M1 in both directions between junctions 30-32 and 39-42. Construction is due to start in Autumn 2006.

To learn more about the proposed improvements, the Highways Agency are holding public exhibitions on 16th and 17th June. The venues are Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield and Barnsley Central Library. Both exhibitions will be open from 10am-8pm on the 16th, and from 10am-5pm on the 17th June.

I thought it was initially 30 to 42. Must have had a rethink, unless they plan to do that later.

Problem is - what chaos will be caused at 32 & 42 North and 39 & 30 south when 4 lanes of traffic funnel into 3 on what are increasingly busy stretches?

it will make no difference at all-attracts more traffic-result-same or bigger queues-freight onto rail and canal and bicycles for all !!!

My kitchen bin is full ...

... so rather than empty it, I'm going to buy a second bin. Sorted.

I think you should set an example by cycling to Halifax.

Ah but thats not the way you would do it is it ...................

..... you actually increase the capacity of your current bin rather than buying another separate one.

To do this you need to close off half your current bin for 18 months so you only have half a bin for the duration of the work(top half for first 9 months, bottom half the second 9 months).

In the meantime you have to use a temporary bin-liner which is poorer quality and you need to tape up the tears and rips.

After 18months you get your bin back with a 20-30% increase in capacity by which time your family has increased in size and you actually need a small skip in your kitchen anyway.

Oh, and you are paying for your new bigger (but not big enough) bin for the next 20 years.
