3 weeks of unnecessary worry/stress/angst - as carlyc said you have to be contacted within 14 days.

They were testing them, they no longer flash anyone when the speed signs are switched off. Pity they can't flash the middle lane drivers, shocking through that 4 lane section, they caused a smash yesterday, the first of many to come.

That's not strictly true. They don't have to have to contacted you within 14 days, they have to have sent out the NIP within 14 days, if it takes a further week for royal mail to deliver it then that is still acceptable. Also if the car is a company car for example it can take much longer as it goes through the system to track the driver and keeper.

They closed the first two lanes because that's where they ended up in the barrier, clear skid marks across the carriageway this morning looking like they started in lane 3. How many are now using the 2nd lane has the slow lane and the third as the middle? They need to put the keep left signs on the electronic boards when they're not using them.

Thats not strictly true - the Notice must be served to registered keeper in 14 days so if you are the registered keeper stop worrying after about day 16. If it was a company car and that - then worry a little longer.

If, however you are the registered keeper and for instance if it's post marked on a Saturday and day 14 was a Sunday - and you get it on a Monday day 15 the delay was foreseable and it's taken too long. - a notice is served on delivery not postage -

If it was postmarked on Friday and sent 1st class - and NIP arrives Monday delay was not foreseable so there's a chance it will still stand.

I have been on the road 20 years ...... Middle Lane drivers are the main thing that got my back up over time. But with the upgrades of many sections of motorway to SMART and many other 4-lane stretches, Middle Lane Drivers really are baffled. They no longer have a middle. So they all default to Lane 3.

Successive governments have spent BILLIONS adding extra lanes. They would have been better off spending MILLIONS on driver education. The motorways would run a lot more smoothly if everyone shifted left (except of course the common-sense types who already have).

    And breathe ........

Which is the middle lane of a four lane section?

You're right though, middle lane drivers are the spawn of the devil.
