His best performances seem to come after he has been dropped, could be a good bet for 1st scorer on tuesday, that will then get him a 39 game run in the team where he scores another 5.
a worthy squad player, good pro and valuable experience, nice to have him on bench rather than starting 40 odd games a season
That would have happened under Davey, not Robins. You're right though, his best performances come after being dropped. He is then sh*t for the next 10 games.
I agree that he is good to have on the bench but only if he can make an impact when he comes on, otherwise i think coulson or sodje should be used as they will be on far less money, for the type of money Macken will be on he needs to be an asset to the team.
good point regards to wages, although he is under contract now until end of season, whether he gets an extension for next term I don't know, I would think sodje or coulson will be involved at some point come Tuesday?
Id play him in midfield!! sounds crazy but hes not a striker now, can hold the ball well, helps defenders out and can support the front 2...worth a go
I agree with the midfield idea, i would try him in Colace's position because i think he would give a bit more bite & leadership, not sure how the lack of pace would work though.
I think his contract is up in the summer, and i can't see it being renewed. He is cover for Gray, Hume and Boggy, and at some point I am sure Robins is going to want a striker or 2 in himself, so Macken will be surplus. We should be looking to get a striker in January and trying to offload Macken, we might get some money for him and it will clear the way for the new strikers wage.
I've been thinking for a while now That if Ian Rush was still at the club then he should have a go at coaching the 'Keepers.
It'd make as much sense as playing Jon Macken in the holding midfield role.
