A consortium led by Ricky Hatton's promoter Dennis Hobson claim they are ready to buy out Sheffield Wednesday chairman David Allen.

Hobson is keen to revive the South Yorkshire side's glory days and believes he needs to buy out Allen after previously seeing an investment bid rejected.

With The Owls still in some £30 million worth of debt, Hobson says he and his group of Sheffield and Jersey-based businessmen have the finances to turn around the club's fortunes.

Hobson has already highlighted who he wants at the club with former manager Ron Atkinson at the top of his list along with fans' favourite Chris Waddle.

"There is a group of businessmen, including my brother Andrew, who share a love of Wednesday and who are prepared to invest to make the club great again," said Hobson.

"It's clear the club are not firing on all cylinders and are going nowhere.

"Me and my brother offered to put in £500,000 each to join the board a couple of years ago when the club appealed for new investors.

"We were turned down so we'll probably have to buy Allen out. I can't say how much we would put in, but we're going to make an approach.

"I'd try and get Big Ron back in some capacity and I'd also like to see Chris Waddle play some sort of role."

If he does to Wednesday what he's done to Hatton

They will be conference in a few seasons time and they will be charging double for the tickets.

Hatton gave up his belt to step up a weight under this guy, his next fight is stepping back down to try and get his belt back.

Everything they are doing with Hatton is about cash, as soon as Hatton signed with him the ticket prices doubled and the opponents worsened.

although to be fair they have got him $6million a fight which is far more than Warren would have paid. Agree the fights themselves have been poor.

Is this why Frank Warren was ( is ?) threatening hatton with legal action ? Not a boxing afficianado messen like.

Fwank tossed his toys out of the pram and did everything he could to **** up Rickys career. Basically he didn't get Ricky to sign a contract and so Hatton signed with Fight Academy (hobson) He had no case so had to drop it.

Hatton was allegedly under contract to Warren

He is supposed to have signed a 4 fight deal before Warren arranged the Tszyu fight, straight after he left Warren for Hobson.

Hatton's defence is that his dad threw the contract in the bin and told him it was for one fight only.

Hatton signed a bout agreement not a promotional contract. Two totally different things. Warren was talking out of his harris.

Was it Warren that Terry Marsh had a 'beef' with ? ( Involving a shotgun as I recall)
