Seemingly had a horrendous time with injuries at Luton. Couldn’t even get on the bench since his return to fitness. I’d take him on season long loan with an option to purchase providing we could also come to some arrangement over his wages for the loan period. I suspect he would jump at the chance to return here.
Well his time at Luton hasn’t been a happy one and I recollect him being quite emotional about leaving us at the time.
I think he will back at Oakwell next season… When he’s here with Luton. I would absolutely love him back but I can’t see it happening at all.
Would we want another injured player on our books? If he's had no joy at Luton then there's every chance it will follow him around and we end up with another Benson. Sadly.
I don’t know when he got fit again but they were pretty decent for the last month or two until the last day when it all fell apart so I can see why the manager wouldn’t upset a settled defence. I’d imagine him coming back is a complete non-starter. They would have to subsidise a huge chunk of his wages to a club in the same league. If they loaned him out I would imagine it would be to a club from a different country.
He was also quite vocal about wanting to play at as high a level as possible, so I don't envisage him dropping down to a mid table 3rd tier side. I think injuries have stunted his progress there more than anything, so the likelihood is he'll either get a move to a Championship side, or he'll feature regularly for Luton I reckon.
We'd all love him back and he possibly would have some interest in coming back, but there's no way we could afford to buy him back given his vastly increased wages since joining Luton and the fact they paid something like 3 million for him. There's surely absolutely no way they loan him to another L1 club in his final year of his deal either.
We need to reduce costs and that likely means reducing the wage bill, would love to see him back but there's no way we could afford him.
