How anybody can vote against him for the man of the match today ought to consider what world they live in. What a sensational performance! Jokes about the ‘votes’ but sensational today. We’ve got a right back three for this run in.
Owt to stop trying to run out of defence with it, Like he's towing a 6 berth caravan, he was caught on a few occasions
Absolute machine. Proper like the guy - so much respect for his performances in a new league, new country and new language. Not only strong in the tackle, but bloody good going forward too.
Connell could be sent off in the first minute while one of our other players scores 10, creates 5 more, goes in goal for the final 15 minutes and saves 6 penalties, finds a cure for cancer, provides evidence of the graviton and submits a unifying theory of relativity and quantum mechanics, ends world poverty, brokers a peace deal in the middle east and gives everyone in the crowd a million quid and Connell would still win man of the match. Mael had no chance just by being a better and more influential player on the day. I like Connell, but the view of some that he's always the best player on the pitch is bunkum.
Fantastic player, I really don't see how people don't rate him. What a brilliant find by our analyst/scouting team!
Mael & Phillips were the top 2 for me today. The official award is down to the sponsor & you're inclined to go with your fave player as they get the interview + personal appearance in the post match hospitality suite. So nothing strange about Luca getting the official award cos he's just all round brilliant
Been on call for work today so not been able to go can't comment on his performance but I absolutely love his passion and desire he shows. Quickly becoming a favorite of mine and other fans cos it's so clear how much he cares and how much he's enjoying his time here. Rocky start but seems to have settled so well and not a crucial player for us. Well done to the scouts for finding another gem
How does it get chosen, out of interest? Is it some kind of collective vote, or is it just someone from whoever is sponsoring the game?
We might well have a right back three but if they are employed at set pieces like they were today then we will continue to concede goals. Derby's most dangerous attacking efforts today were almost exclusively set pieces. Mostly Hourihane at dead balls - corners / free kicks. Derby's no.5 was not man marked and won practically all of them that came his way. He scored and nearly played a part in one or two others. Why was he not shadowed, instead of being able to wander about where he liked, on his own, causing all sorts of mayhem? Why not stick Pines on him at least? Is this zonal marking?
Because at least two of their players were holding our defenders and doing them being able to move and make any kind of challenge. Cashin being the main offender
For their goal, watch the highlights . Philips is left to deal with the number 5. There is nobody anywhere near him.
We're not going to come up against many better set pieces than Hourihane's all season, as we should all know!
