Hatters boss Mike Newell has revealed that defender Sol Davis suffered a stroke on Saturday on their way to Ipswich Town.

Davis, 27, is currently in a specialist unit at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge.

After seeing his side beaten 5-0 by Ipswich, Newell said: "I would like to put on record that Sol suffered a stroke on Saturday, 25 minutes after we left Luton on Saturday.

"We have kept that quiet until now but that putseverything into perspective. I don't want distorted reports orsensationalism and although we are not making excuses at all for ourperformance, our thoughts are all with Sol.

"I'm not sure if that has had an effect on the players, but it can't really have helped. Sol has made a bit of an improvementbut he lost feeling in his left side and it has affected his speech.

"It was apparently a blockage to the brain that hascaused it, but I will not go into full details as I am not sure whatthey are."

Everybody connected with Luton Town Football Club wishes Sol a speedy recovery.
