Currently watching Belgium v Morocco and a comment was made early on to the effect that De Bruyne isn’t so effective with Belgium as he is with Man C. An explanation offered was that he doesn’t have the quality of players around him in the Belgian side as with his club side. That got me thinking which is the best team at this World Cup that doesn’t have a City player amongst its ranks. Without giving it a lot of thought I picked out France. They’re certainly one of the better teams if not the best in Qatar and have no City players.

How do you imagine France would perform against the current City team managed of course by Pep?
Is there another top side in Qatar without any City players?
I think City would give France a good game and may just come out on top

City have 16 players at the World Cup from Switzerland, Brazil, Belgium, Germany, England, Portugal, Netherlands, Spain and Argentina.
France, Serbia, Croatia, Denmark, Senegal are amongst the teams with no City players

France comfortably the best City less team there I would suggest

If Benjamin Mendy wasn't such a disgusting odious chap, they'd have a French player in there!

Belgiums golden chance was 2018. De Bruyne, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Lukaku, Hazard brothers, Witsel, Kompany, Courtois, Vermaelen, Dembele, Tielemans, Mertens, all at their peak, absolutely incredible side. Now they're all aged and fading. Debruyne looks a shadow of himself at national level this world cup

Great finish for Morocco's second. Thoroughly deserved that win IMO. Belgium lacked the pace and enthusiasm displayed by their opponents. No shortage of skill from Morocco either.

This world cup is wide open, just unfortunate we're likely to meet France in the quarters.

Brilliant result for Morocco. Belgium miles off the pace. Their golden era really has gone down the swanny. About 70% of their team will be retired next world cup!

As best as I can work out Belgium need Canada to get a result against Croatia in the next match to have any realistic chance of qualifying

The best club teams would be more likely to beat the best international teams. The prestigious nature of the world cup is because its every four years.

They're facing a Croatia team on a similar decline to them in the 3rd game though, with the Victor likely to progress.

Got some good players have Canada mate. But like a lot of nations, a lot of poor ones too! But same as Belgium, I think the Croats will be slow and ponderous. Saw with Argentina, Germany etc just keep running and running at em, not given em space. Their best players don't have the legs anymore! Hope Canada win

It’s not out of the question for both Belgium and Croatia to go out

Plus they are followed by a nation's fans. Not a particular league clubs.

Well yeah but it would be a big surprise if neither Belgium or Croatia were to progress beyond the group stage
