https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/man-utd-season-ticket-holders-26209303 I am split on that. Once you've bought one if you don't want to go to every game it shouldn't matter as you've bought the seat. But then I can see why the club are doing it as they will have a long waiting list for season ticket holders and want every seat full every game. Surely they can sort a service where when a season ticket holder can't go to a game it can be sold on to someone else.
Can see why they don't want loads of empty seats, can't see why they would be empty though but if you can afford to waste the money, why not gift individual tickets to family and friends, if you struggle top afford it offload individual tickets to other people you know at cost.
Are the s/ts at Oakwell transferable to friends or family? Maybe that's why there are so many empty seats at Oakwell .... oh hang on a minute ...
Think you like have to buy cup tickets as well with your season ticket- mate has one and I'm sure he's mentioned it in the past
Was looking at this myself. Perhaps, if they allow 2-3 days notice from a S/T holder that they won’t be attending, which would then allow the club to pass them onto a waiting list and it doesn’t count as an ‘absence’. I know this doesn’t help those who can’t go at ‘ short notice’ but if they then say, 3 consecutive games without notice, and then you’re you’re out, it could prevent the regular non- attenders. No doubt this could be circumvented but it’s a basis to try and combat the problem
They can't have it both ways. If they're ok with Sky/BT shuffling fixtures around, then they have to accept that some people will stay at home rather than travel at Sunday teatime or Friday night. In this day and age, you could easily set up a scheme whereby ST holders could offer up their seats free of charge to people who couldn't normally afford to attend. Or school kids. Or NHS workers. Or folk from Barnsley who might have forgotten what football looks like.
Problem Man United have is that they have number of Season tickets sold, that literally buy just for the big games and have done for a number of years. I would imagine the decision is based on lost revenue on the day for all the empty seats & as someone else said they know they can easily resell the ticket to a long waiting list.
I think a few German clubs (possibly loads of other too) have official secondary markets where a ST holder tells the club they won't be attending so the club puts that ticket back on sale, then the club takes a cut of the sale and the rest back to the ST holder....win ,win all round.
The key phrase is not used. And the limit is set at half the games. I think it’s quite reasonable given their waiting list that they ask you to pass it on to someone if you can’t go. Though it may be helpful if the club offered an exchange scheme
Clearly states at the end of the article that its about maximising match day revenue. Clubs have gone from being grateful to fans consistent support to being annoyed they can’t rinse every penny out of them
They do have a system where you can sell the season ticket for a game if you can’t make it, they had it for years. It’s been their aim for years to never have an empty seat in the ground.
