First up, Frimpong. Keen, solid enforcer/midfielder of the type we've been lacking. He's keen to impress and get started in a febrile derby atmosphere. He knows, and Danny will make sure he knows that he needs to bring some maturity into his game. OK, maybe he should have that already, given the level he's played at. But he has ability, and Danny will sort him. He's 22, FFS. He will be a good player for us if he can learn from Danny and the staff. But his signing is also a signal that we have extended our ambition a bit from the calamitous period when our only objective was survival at the least possible cost. So let's have some perspective here. His two tackles totally justified yellows, and if they had been by a visiting player at Oakwell we'd have been outraged if they had not been so marked.

Next up, penalty decision re Mellis. We all want it to be a penalty. I shouted abuse at my laptop screen when it wasn't given. But in reality, that was a 50/50 decision. Did Llerra move his leg in Mellis's direction or did Jacob run into it? At full speed, seen once, could you be sure? That's how Marriner has to judge it. If there's any doubt, he can't give it.

Jacob's sending off. Frustration? Undoubtedly. Deserved? You bet. At the very least, he gave Marriner the opportunity to make the decision. We don't want that to happen, and at that stage of the game it's even more emotive. But it's easy to understand why it did.

Jimbo and blame? There are no more honest or industrious players in the side than Jimbo. We can talk about quality, but we can't debate commitment. Dawson gave the ball away and turned into trouble incessantly from when he came on, but he didn't have the misfortune to do it in such a critical area.

Throughout the game we were bossed in possession terms, but until Frimpong's red, we attacked on the break and created four good chances. After the 30th minute we defended manfully until 90+7 and showed great spirit and togetherness. It continued the trend of improvement we've seen since Danny came back. The difference was one point, because after Frimpong went off, that was all we were going to get.

There are a lot of positives to take from that game, and I was more pleased with the performance than some of the poor draws we got (including against Wednesday) under Flitcroft. The deficit might be too great to overcome this season, but we are definitely going the right way under Danny, and the squad is looking a whole lot more convincing, with better to come. We shouldn't look at a game and think there's blame to apportion or the world is against us - it will come right. Danny and the lads gave a display today from which we can tak some pride.

That's all I've got to say.

What can I say, I agree with what you say especially in regard to Frimpong and Jimmy Jimmy. You make a mature and well considered rational argument. :) I give it an A+ :)

Great observations, agree with pretty much all of that. I really hope you're right on Frimpong. Not because I want him to be great player, but more that we need 11 players on the pitch.

Agree - would add that Crainey and Ramage forming an excellent central defence partnership, hunt looks a real player and the fear of losing his place, galvanised Kennedy into a very good performance.

You may be right on every single point.
    But
That doesn't alter the fact that once again, I've come out of Hillsborough to the sneering faces of triumphant deedars.
Just once, could we come out with a win?
Pride? I'd take their jammy victory every time.

    Very good post.

I still think Digby should be given his chance. I assume Frimpong will have a 1 match ban. Dawson ain't up to it. Digby's shirt & if he plays well Frimpong should have to fight his way in.

I hope Frimpong comes good. These types of signings are always a gamble. I have no problem people slagging him & Mellis, as their rash behaviour cost us the game.

Leave Jim alone & lets get behind all the team at the next match.

I wasn't there today, watching on a dodgy stream. Sounded like our fans were in good voice.

    A lot of positives.

We have a solid centre back pairing & two great strikers.

We are a long way back. But there IS hope.

Did pretty well against Blackpool as well, shame he had to play on opposite side against Blackburn, but Danny has that one sorted now unless Hunt went off injured.

I've watched it back a few times now, I would say Dawson is almost equally at fault. Everyone is saying why didn't Jim just boot it (which he should have), but wasn't it Dawson who passed (sideways, if not backwards) to him? Jim had to slow down to get onto the end of it, why didn't Dawson boot it out in the first place?

thats not the reason why they scored though, or we could go back to the previous pass and the one before that as well.

Jim made a shocker and i hope he realises it and doesnt try to do anything like that ever again.

Only once since the 1980's (I was at those) have we done owt at Hillsbro. Each year I chalk em off as "nil point". I was there today and we don't look a relegation side, but have we enough time - I don't know.
