First time poster, been reading for a while and thought I'd get amongst it. I wanted to start on this board by asking the question what are realistic good managerial appointments for BFC and are expectations too high for what candidates we can attract? I ask this question because i've read many posts crying out for rosler/Adkins ect and like many I would love this appointment but is it a realistic expectation? Although we are one off the bigger clubs in the league surly they would require a larger wage which we can't afford! Even Brentford had a rich backer at the time. I know some fans seem let down by the lee Johnson link but realistically is this one of the best appointments available too us considering how much we can offer in terms of wages to a currently successful manager? In my opinion Adkins/rosler are a little above us in terms of wages and reputation and I don't particularly want an unemployed hit and miss manager like Warnock/SOD/mobray either, we had that with wilson anyway no point swapping like for like. I personally think we need someone Young who can hopefully stay in post for a while and turn the club around but also is within our wage bracket and has seen some managerial success. The question is which manager fits this build which we can realistically expect to want to come to BFC?
would cist us more to employ say for example Johnson when you factor the fact he has a 3 year contract with Oldham in place that they would expect compensation on than to employ someone currently unemployed
You might as well appoint Higgy or Eaden if you're going to try for Johnson who's done very little. Rosler would have a promotion on his CV had he not gone to Wigan and steered them to the playoffs and an FA Cup semi final. Adkins has promotions to the Championship and Premier League on his CV (even Danny can't say that). He's not young though. I still hope it's Davis. If not, then give it Higgy or Eaden.
Whitey While can understand your shout for Davis, not that I agree with you, but why on earth would you champion Eaden or Hignett? If your suggestion is because they once played for us what about Ron Futcher & Heinz Muller?
Re: Whitey I'm not championing owt. I'm saying they're as good a shout as Johnson who's managed what so far? Cheaper n all.
I don't know what the salary demands will be for the more experienced (or the lesser experienced, for that matter) options, how much of a transfer 'chest' they'd expect to be at their disposal, whether it all falls within the club's, or owner's, budget, whether they'd be willing to work within whatever constraints (both financial and professional) are dictated by the board. Due to these issues, I haven't the foggiest idea who we'll target for a short list. There's pros and cons for all the suggestions put forward so far. I think I'll keep an open mind for now. All in all, I've just realised I've wasted the time of everyone who has just read this post! Yours Faithfully A daft, old duffer!
Not sure who we'll appoint as manager but expectations will be mixed from instant success and outplaying every team we cross paths with to consolidation in this league. I'm with the latter for this season and probably a chance of playoffs next although if Denny had been in charge I would be expecting the playoffs next season with a chance of automatic given the time he would have been with us and I think we would have achieved that
At the moment, the cost of annually having to pay off an averagely salaried manager is more than someone like Rosler would be paid, so I think your start premise is wrong. Get a better manager in and don't have the cost of firing him, simples.
Phil Brown was a Premiership manager with Hull he's now at Southend , I don't think Adkins or Rosler are out of our league it all depends what their expectations are Curbishley apparently turned down loads of jobs because he thought he was a Prem manager his expectations were obviously too high
