Just to try and take my mind off the coming weekend, and the anxiety it is causing most of us, I have been having a think about potential managerial appointments, whatever happens this weekend. My personal opinion is that for a couple of years Davey did a good job of keeping us up, but this last 12 months has been a big disappointment, and maybe a fresh outlook is needed. PC has proved he has faith in appointments made, for that I think he should be praised as we were a club who sacked managers way too often in the past, and we have now probably lost that reputation, and as a result will probably look more attractive to potential appointments next time around, and he has backed the manager well in the transfer market, and probably on wages, looking at the calibre of player we have. Two names that are not high profile, but looking at the stats may be good appointments are Adkins at Scnuthorpe and Robins at Rotherham, and I wondered what people would make of these? Adkins appears to have a knack of finding strikers at cut prices, and somehow inspiring them to score, something we definitely lack and have done for many years, and if you add 17 points back onto Rotherham's total this season they would probably be promoted, not a bad achievement for a club that would be on a downer from day 1 expecting relegation due to the points deduction. Like I said, just something to ponder, and I would welcome any other thoughts on these guys..... Up the Reds!!!!
Id like to see us go for someone like Aidy Boothroyd, proven at getting a team promoted on a limited budget and has something to prove. Other managers who id expect to apply are Ian Holloway, Paul Ince, Alan Pardew, Jim Magilton, Steve Cotterill, Micky Adams, Brian Little, John Gregory and Lawrie Sanchez.
Aidy Boothroyd's team play ugly "long ball" football, relying on winning the "second ball". One of the first players he would pick would Odejayi. Do we want our club to play that way? Or do we just want to see our team safe them relegation battles each year?
I was trying to highlight managers with a record of playing attractive football with limited resources and have done well with those resources. I can see the Boothroyd argument from a resources point of view, but I have not enjoyed the quality of football on offer this season (plenty on here seem to be saying they are so disappointed they may not renew season tickets, mainly due to the quality of the football on show) and I am unsure it would get better under him?
Ask Stoke fans what they want to see, i want to see us try and win every game something we dont currently do.
Do we have a manager? Since when? Surely you're not refering to the prize clown Davey who is doing a very bad impression of a manager /poo (clown)
Love him or hate him, if we do stay up then i cannot see Davey getting the sack. He will be with us next season if we are in the championship. If Mr Cryne thinks that he as took us has far as he can and decides to appoint a new manager, i would try and get Gary Neville, with probably Paul Scoles as his number two. Ex Man Utd players have a knack of making good managers. I think they would love the chance to step into managment, if we could afford them.
Both good shouts in my opinion. Adkins definatly knows his strikers. Apart from fact he signed Kayode!!!!
Well he certainly has done well with a few of our ex players. Wouldnt say no to him to be honest. Robins not too sure. Hes as boring as O Driscoll when you listen to him!! Least he doesnt say same thing every week though like Davey!
RE: Foolish person davey will still be manager next season - crowd numbers will be up - you'll eat your words! cheers - zetland
Both Adkins and Robbins are doing a fine job in League 1.
The cut price strikers Adkins gets hold of are League 1 strikers.
There is quite a large gap between League 1 and the Championship.
If heaven forbid Davey did leave the Club I would like Robbins to have a go.
He seems a nice sort of chap.
