Felt sorry for him and Paul today. Two people I wanted desperately to succeed. Honest to goodness Barnsley lads who'll be feeling our pain right now.
Felt sorry for the lad, partly for the result and mainly for having to make that interview with the media. I really wanted him to be the answer to our prayers. Sadly, he's obviously not. Not because of the result, but because of his confidence and his presence.
How can you base his competence on ONE game? At least he spoke with some passion in the after-match interview.
Most of them will be the same sort who made up their minds about Wilson before he had even managed us once. These lads have no chance.
He's well thought of apparently in coaching circles , someone I know was doing their UEFA coaching badges at Lilleshall some years ago and Burton was taking the coaching sessions, obvious it doesn't mean he can manage but its unfair to put him in the same bracket as ....err...you
Sounds like a decent lad and I've heard he's supposed to be a good coach, so I hope, for his sake, he doesn't get the job. His managerial career may be even shorter than his playing career and he's already being called clueless after one game in charge. He deserves better than us.
I'd be happy if he got the job tomorrow. He's a Tarn lad, I've met him (he even bought me a pint) and Jacob speaks highly of him in terms of coaching. It's those above that need to sort themselves out, to give whoever gets the gig a ******* chance.
His post-match interview offered plenty of passion, but no insight into what went wrong. Anyone on here could offer the same amount of passion. He speaks of changes next week, but in truth, what options has he got? It may seem a harsh judgement, but we don't have the time to fanny around, given our situation. I repeat - he may be a good bloke (probably is) and may well also be a decent coach. But a manager is something different. We are in a bad position as it stands, and we can't afford to fiddle any more while Rome burns. Tough times call for tough measures.
I agree. He will have had one session with the team, hardly time to influence things. Give him a couple of games to try and get them something like. Really would like to see them lift the team and get the jobs permanently
I agree with all of what has been written in support of Mark and he would be my preferred candidate if he could do the job. I'm judging on one game and one interview and that's all I have to go on. I heard a bloke who was shocked after Crawley mugged us. They changed in the second half and we didn't. He mentioned backing the 'new manager' too many times for me. I wanted to see some confidence and some ambition. We are in a relegation scrap now and we can't afford any more debacles like yesterday's. Give him another game by all means so that we can find out more, but be realistic about our position. We can't afford wishful thinking. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
As much as I'm a little bewildered by the overreaction to Wilson's sacking on here/social media, I do feel that the next manager has to be a big name for there to be any justification.
Good coaches don't always make good managers. It's a massive risk weighed against him knowing the club and being from Barnsley.
