the first one wasn't a pen, maybe the 2nd. but come on, 2 penalties for an away side in a derby? *****!
RE: Really? nt He seamt bias all game for me, now thats got me mad. We should have come away with 3 points!
That was the best decision, when he blew his whistle and pointed for a corner in the first half. Before the ball had even gone out... WTF?
Admission of guilt For me, the fact he gave us a soft free kick immediately after their first penalty, is indicative of poor referring. It was simply his way of saying sorry. But two poor decisions don't make it ok.
RE: Admission of guilt do you actually believe that. he gave the penalty because he thought it was one. he didn't see any replys inbetween. so had no reason to think hed got it wrong. so why would he give a free kick to say sorry
RE: Admission of guilt I was suggesting he gave the penalty in good faith, but subsequently thought about it and had a change of mind (he may have spoken with the linesman). Have you never been less certain about something, after taking your first decision? Certainly the free kick given to us shortly after was “soft”.
RE: Got the big one wrong though. nt I thought he handled the potential volatility of the game reasonably well and didn't start wavings cards at random - which could have turned the game into a farce. Sadly, when it came to the penalties, the first one is one of the worse pen decisions I have seen for a long time - 3 players going for the same ball collide, Steel then gets the ball first, their forward then falls over Steel and it's a penalty - joke. How either linesman can stand their and not over rule the ref is a mystery. As regards him then then making up for a bad mistake, why the **** did he give them another penalty - which to be fair was less contentious than the first but hardly a 'stonewalled'. Still pissed off with how things turned out on Tuesday But an excellent tarn performance nevertheless.
I thought they were both penalties to be fair, soft be we put our feet/bodies in the way of the ball, missed, and allowed their players to get the pens. Thought Steele just nicked Evans and second was a daft challenge from Hammill. Battenberg didn't give / didn't see the nut on Macken which was more contentious. He had a decent game as a ref really. Been much worse refs down here most games. Kettle, Haines, endless crap refs too many to mention. We should have scored 4 and not given the pens away. Jonny Mac played well but 2 sitters he cleared 2 off the line to be honest. C'est la vie. Get over it. We played well and will be mid table come April.
Dont know how anyone could think the first one was a pen - Steele touched the ball even if he had stayed on his feet he would have never got to the ball and how could steele have stopped the guy falling over his body?
l Steele did make contact with the strikers foot just before he got the ball. Evans made a meal of it as good strikers do, and Calamity Kozluk was all over him. QED. I'd have given it ( as a ref).
he refd it well, just cos he gave them 2 penalties dunt mean he wo ****, i saw the macken incident and wud have been pissed off if hed have sent one of our players off without seeing properly what happened and everything else he gave us more than a fair share of
