When Mark Robbins brings Coventry City to Oakwell tomorrow I sincerely hope the fans give him a decent reception instead of the tripe some often dole out to visiting ex Reds managers. In my time at the Club I always found him to be approachable and polite. when he left he came to every single one of the Oakwell staff, the club shop, the cleaners literally everyone and thanked them for their help and support during his tenure. He was a thoroughly decent man and he left because , shall we say , disagreements with the board .
I will second that... Top bloke.. In all my dealings with him . I found him to be honest and approachable .. And he only wanted the best for the club... In my opinion he was let down big time by certain people at the club.. ... Respect where respect is due
Yes I agree thats fair enough about Robins. I appreciate the momentum we gained under him, even if it was at times slow and boring and predictable etc, we were still moving forward under him. Ok he sounds as dour as dirty dishwater in interviews, but then again so did Allan Clarke, Mel Machin, Paul Hart, & even Hecky as well at times.
Good lad Mark Robins. I'll always love him for giving Odejayi twenty minutes then farming him out on loan, then bringing O'Neill Thompson as a sub and subbing him after twenty minutes never to be seen again. My kind of manager.
He never did anything to antagonise anyone. He speaks highly of us now, spoke highly of us when he when he was manager, and he put together a functional team which was sometimes capable of really giving someone a proper beating. I hope we turn him over tomorrow but he seems like a good bloke, and his managerial record isn't to be sniffed at either.
If hed signed you and promised you loads, and then brought you on and subbed you after 19 and a half minutes, and never played you again.... would you still think the same ?.
I liked him here and have a lot of respect for him, but I’ll save my welcoming until after the full time whistle (depending on the result) before and during the 90 mins he’s the enemy in my eyes. That said I won’t be screaming expletives in his face, but I won’t be clapping him and singing his name either.
Whether thats true or not Conan kid, thats not what I asked you is it, and I said the word 'you' about 87 times didnt I lol. So come on then stop acting like a politician, answer the question laddy.
Have we ever given him any special treatment good or bad? He's been gone a long time now so will probably go unnoticed.
Robins - absolutely brilliant start. The Middlesborough game around Christmas, where we came back from 1-0 down at half time to win 2-1 in front of a huge crowd got me thinking that we were on the verge of something special. We then inexplicably went a bit **** for the rest of the season, and were absolutely dull as dishwater to watch after having been very exciting. It was all a bit strange.
Yes the 9/10 season Robins took us from the relegation zone to just outside the play-offs in the blink of an eye. Then it all fizzled out. 10/11 season we started brightly beating Leeds 5-2 and won 4 in a row up to Christmas then couldnt buy a win after Christmas. I think those few months january window included got the powers that be plotting his demise.
In January of that season (I've told this previously ) MR wanted to sign 4 players who he had got lined up who he had 100% faith in and who he believed would get us promotion... He approached the powers that were and was told no.. Just make sure we retain our championship status Same person who previously had told him there's no budget in place.. Which prompted MR to say there were better run conference clubs.... What he was promised and told when he was poached from Rotherham was so far off the mark it was unbelievable... He was let down badly
My input on this (info from a director) was that Mark was told his budget would change the next season and they wanted to run the club on similar lines to the way we are run now,buy players we could improve and have the potential to have there value increased.Mark refused. The previous season the club spent 6 million pounds on loanees who all went back to there parent clubs at the end of the season. The club couldn't and wouldn't carry on like that.
