Bristol City want to speak to Dave Jones about becoming their new boss – with Mark Robins his major rival for the post. The Robins axed Keith Millen yesterday after a disastrous start to the season and would like to persuade the former Cardiff City chief to come back into management. Jones is interested in the post but has also been linked with bigger jobs in recent weeks and may be reluctant to commit to the challenge of keeping City in the Championship. Out-of-work Robins is also in the frame for the Ashton Gate vacancy, with some major admirers within the club after the work he did at Barnsley before falling out with the owners. Millen walked the plank after Saturday’s 5-0 hammering at Blackpool left struggling City bottom of the table. He joined the club in 1999 as a player, making more than 60 appearances before retiring due to a knee injury. He then took on roles as academy coach and assistant manager under Brian Tinnion before retaining the No.2 position under Gary Johnson. Along with Johnson, Millen suffered Championship play-off final heartbreak with defeat to Hull City at Wembley in 2008. Millen twice assumed caretaker control of the club before formally taking charge in August 2010, when Steve Coppell left Ashton Gate after just four months and two games in the hotseat.
