    I remember a home game against Plymouth in the 90/91 season and a away striker splinting smudges skull open with his elbow. Ref wasn’t going to give anything until he turned to us in Brewery with blood all over him and all stand going AYUP!!!!

    Couple of stitches and a bandage and he was reight, nearly scored with a header as well.

    Brilliant center half.

    An excellent player for us and someone who played a vital part in the progress of Taggart & Tiler during their formative years, in my opinion.
    I remember with great fondness his goal in the first couple of minutes against Sheffield United in the 2-2 draw, FA Cup 5th Round, February 1990. He scored in front of the Barnsley fans, celebrating for ages in the goal!:D

    That was a wonderful occasion. Would have been even more wonderful if Ian Banks hadn't missed an open goal just before half time when we were 2-1 up.

    He was a class act, remember him initially coming on loan along with Brian McCord when Eric Winstanley was in caretaker charge in late 1989. Had goals in him, but such a consistent defender. One of his best performances I remember was the 5-0 win at Wolves. Their forward line was decent, Steve Bull and Andy Mutch I think it was. Smith was flawless, alongside Taggart and Tiler. Cannot recall Wolves getting a shot on target.

    Aye, think the striker was Robbie Turner. Smith finished the game looking like Terry Butcher when similar happened to him playing for England. Blood everywhere, red shirt hid a lot of it.

    Leicester away, celebrating like a nutter at the end on the other side of the fence. I also love him for getting tangled in the net when playing for "them", when Mike Lester scored from a narrow angle after a break away.

    There's something proper funny about watching opposition defenders coming oh so close to stopping a goal, but just failing as it trickles in, after which they get tangled in the net like a stranded haddock. Love it!
