Despite the contract extension, the Hartbergers will in all probability lose Markus Schopp. The 47-year-old coach is expected to sign with Barnsley FC in the second-highest English division in the next few days. The negotiations are about to be concluded, and the English media also see Schopp as a logical successor.

The second division has to react as ex-Lask coach Valerien Ismael moves to West Bromwich. The Austrians Michael Sollbauer and Dominik Frieser are also under contract in Barnsley. With Gerhard Struber, an Austrian has already sat in the coaching bench.

TSV chairman Erich Korherr did not want to confirm anything yet. "Markus Schopp will certainly still be there during training and the test match on Saturday," explains Korherr, who does not want to plan any longer. "I don't want to give you any information about that. With Florian Flecker we saw how fast it can go."

Surely his style is at complete odds with what we’re aiming for again!

The reason that our owners tend to stick with the press is that they do not want to see wholesale changes in playing staffs. It is expensive, and it is extremely disruptive as the players try to get used to all the nuances of the new system. Having read about the systems that Schopp uses, I will be very surprised if he is the next coach of Barnsley FC.

Every coach they’ve employed have had different systems and tactics.

They may profess continuity, but never pans out that way.

Val's gone, so that is that. I am obviously excited and eager to hear who our new manager will be, as well as any possible new players.

However, I am more interested at this time to know if any of the backroom staff will be leaving, although this could still change when a new manager is appointed.

Also, I'm not sure if it is legally possible, but could we make a "gentlepersons" agreement not to poach any of our players for a certain length of time? I know this excludes Mowatt, as he is out of contract, but it would be nice to know the others are relatively safe, for now.

Fairly sure Dane will insist on full market value for all our contracted talent should anyone come knocking. Including WBA.

    Oh, hang on

I think the continuity comes in the form of the press, high line, high energy. No club would really ever be able to stick with formations and tactics from one coach to the next, but if some of the principles remain the same you don’t need to throw the baby out with the bath water each time you change Head Coach.

Most recent example I can think of that shows complete change and turmoil would be De Boer going to Palace. Usually when a manager has success bookending a failure, it’s because the continuity in the style wasn’t there.

But you’re right, Stendel to Struber to Val was three completely different systems.
