Ranked as the 2 best midfielder in the Championship by the Football League.
He's also 17th in the top 100 listing.

The problem with the really talented players is that when they do have an average game it stands out much more than if a lesser player did.
Those stats are the Official Football League stats in which the players performance is measured against set criteria and is qualitative not quantative. They are not subject to personal opinion.
If you look at them you will see that most of the top players are with the top Clubs so for Devaney to be rated as high as 2nd best midfielder is a credit to him and Barnsley Football Club.
I am quite happy that one of our players is rated so highly.

Highly rated, highly talented and highly deserved. He may have the odd off game but he is still our best player going forward. Look how we missed him while he was suspended. Hope he is fit for the run-in.
If they are qualitative and not quantative they have to be, at least to some extent, subjective. If something is quantative than it is objective and not subject to opinion, although it will be affected by interpretation.
Based on what though someone made a list of what makes the perfect midfielder and devised a scoring system based on an opinion -even though midfield is a very difficult area to pidgeonhole like that does it assume a defensive midfielder like Roy Keane used to be - or an attacking one like Gerrard. does it count the number of times you race back to cover the AWOL full back or just the goals and assists. Dont get me wrong I think Devaney is an asset to our side but to say he is the 2nd best midfielder in the league is laughable
