Ok what would you say would be a reasonable price if the rumour was true with Cardiff wanting him? In the Opta ratings he was the fifth best winger in the league last season I believe. He's just signed a brand new contract and we are in a good league. He would also be pretty hard to replace. That is why I reckon a million quid should not be out of the question, considering the prices lower league crap can go for these days.
Unfortunately what he's worth and what people will pay are very different. Nobody will offer anything over 250k for him. 1 he's not that good, 2 we're skint.
He's not going anywhere anyhow And he's worth what we'll accept for him. He's just signed a 2 year contract so I expect someone would have to pay over the odds to get him. If he wanted to go its likely he'ld have fecked off when his contract expired for **** all and got bigger wages.
based on what? we're not exactly known for keeping our better players and we're not in a position to turn down £250k
Why does everyone think we're so skint again? I think you'll find we wouldn't accept a bid of anywhere near that little for a key player like Martin. People just get on to a story and stick to it... As if we'd sell him for that price, what a joke.
He had a clause in his contract... I know how gutted GS was after that and I'm pretty sure it won't happen again.
Re: Martin Devaney's Price He wont be going anywhere. He would have signed for somebody as a free agent and got higher wages. And I dont think the club would let him go on the cheap. The 'McIndoe' clause certainly wont have happened again.
Re: Martin Devaney's Price no fault but his own that one though, yes mcindoe insisted in having the clause, but surely we shouldve just said, okay have it but its 500k cos if your good enough then you will be worth it,but what do us outsiders know about football eh?
Re: Martin Devaney's Price reckon well receive just short of 250K even though he's worth more, agree with scruffy tyke what he's worth and what we can for him are two different mmatters
In which case if what we can get for him is £250k he's worth more than that to us so we shouldn't sell. He's under contract so a club have to offer what we think he's worth to get him.
Im struggling with the "worth" bit The statement that what he is worth isn't what we will get for him doesnt stack up. There are two ways we can consider his value - amount that someone else will pay for him is probably the easiest clearist which is effectively his market value - that is really what he is worth in financial terms. The second is what he is worth to us - a bit harder to evaluate as we need to consider how easy he is to replace - and the costs +the effect on attendences and cup runs prize money , increased risk of relegation/reduced chance of promotion TV income etc etc . I am sure that Gordon and Simon have figure though - which I strongly suspect is more than 250K. The simple equation is if someone values him higher than we do we should sell, if they offer less than our valuation we tell them to go away. The only scenarios where that doesnt apply are where we have to sell at any price to get cash to keep the club running - Leeds may have to sell players on the cheap to get them off their books for example, or if there are other factors where the player wants to leave. I dont think either of these apply to us
RE: Martin Devaney's Price Why are we 'cash strapped' Barnsley? I thought we were breaking even? and we have a multi millionaire owner?
Re: Martin Devaney's Price Put it in context. Craig Fagan (another winger) moved from Hull to Derby, with only 6 months remaining on his contract, and the fee was £750K plus £250K if Derby go up. Devaney is twice the player Fagan is or ever will be.
