How do you know? The club might be looking at loads of players but not releasing their names. He brought Reid to the club so he must be a good scout.

Historically, Martin Wilkinson has brought some of the finest players that Barnsley Football Club have EVER had.

Wilkinson, was also responsible for David Seaman and indeed stuck by him and took him to Peterboro after his release from Leeds.

From the current side, who had ever heard of Brian Howard this time last year. Overall, I would say Wilkinsin has been a very succesful Football Club scout.

    nothing but dead ends?

maybe becasue he could be look at a high calibure players who have a number of clubs after them!

Same bloke who no doubt scouted, hassell, reid, colgan, heckingbottom, hayes, devaney, howard, shuker, so his track record isn't that bad, and b4 you say it there have been some bads un's as well, Vaughan etc

Not to mention , from his first spell

Trevor Aylott , Derrick Parker , Mike Lester , Gary Pierce , Ian Evans , Tommy Graham , Derek Bell and Neil Cooper .
Oh , before I forget , there was that other bloke . You know who I mean , Scottish International , played in midfield , most skillful player to wear the Barnsley shirt , best Barnsley player EVER .

Dun't think Wilkinson can claim credit for all of them

He'd have been a busy bloke if he was covering the whole of the UK
We had a Scottish scout who told BFC about Ali Millar and I may be wrong but I'm sure the same chap told Clarkey about Glavin.

Wilkinson , as scout , earmarked ALL those players

Amongst others who didn't sign for us , for a variety of reasons . Wilkinson was definitely the man man who brought Glavin's availability to Clarke's attention . The Alistair Millar connection was extremely obtuse . Ronnie Glavin said ( at the time and years later ) the only time he'd heard of Barnsley was when Alistair Millar signed in 1971 .
Allan Clarke ( due to his inexperience at the time ) relied on the like of Norman Rimmington , Johnny Steele and Barry Murphy when dealing with day to day running of the club . When it came to scouting for potential signings , he put his complete faith in Martin Wilkinson . Wilkinson repaid his manager's faith by targeting the aforementioned players .

So negative about summat yuo have no knowledge of..

How is it that people come on here and say such crap about someone they know nothing about. From what I have read on here Wilkinson is a great scout and works hard for BFC. To make such a statement beggars belief. You don`t have a clue what might be going on behind the scences. The manager and scout are hardly going to make it public knowledge who they are watching or trying to sign are they?

1980 . When Clarke left to join Leeds

He took Murphy and Wilkinson with him . He wanted to take Rimmington too , but Rimmo wouldn't leave us .
