I'd like to send roughly 25,000 emails per month and I'd like to control and operate it myself.
Any suggestions?

doubt your ISP would allow it. "tarpitting" is probably used to prevent the sending of spam. sorry that doesn't actually answer your question.
more pic's ???????? your'e obsessed with photos' mmmmmmm

Derek Jacobi said so just before your assault on him with the AK47 ??????????

Windy's pet dwarf.
So angry and bitter and obsessed and obsessed. I'm laughing at you and everybody likes me and they all hate you.
Obsessed.

I use these fella - best in the business and very cheap Aweber They have a sliding scale starting at $19 per month (500 subscribers) for unlimited email. You get templates, plain text, auto responders, full click through tracking etc etc... All the top marketeers use them. You can also create a javascript sign up form to stick on your website - they fill in and immediately go on your list and enter the aut responder sequence.
yes you can setup your own smtp server but if you start sending out 25,000 emails straight away then receiving ISPs will either blacklist you or put big delays in your connections and slow your email to a trickle. Dont waste your time trying to do it yourself. Use a good outlet like i recommended in my post on this thread. Will save you a lot of agro.
opt in email is not spam it is perfectly legitimate and ethical. I know people with 100K+ on several different lists. Its all about how you treat those subscribers. Hit them with junk they unsubscribe. Give them good quality content they will stick around.
