I, for one, am for a wholesale clearout. Start anew, clean slate. I'm sure Danny boy has countless targets on his radar that would be within our price range. But for all the changes in the player department, the most important thing is that we need to get rid of this small club mentality we've developed under the previous reign. We've turned into a 'small provincial club supported by the locals'. Somewhere down the line we lost our gritty, us against the world cavalier attitude. We've got a leader we can depend on now, let's move on, starting with getting shut of players and getting Danny's team in! You Reds!!
let's see how things pan out, shall we? wholesale clearances are the footballing equivalent of a boom bust economy. replacing one heap of $hit with an entirely new heap of $hit, isn't going to move us forward. i keep coming back to the same thing over and over. the players that kept us up with a promotion standard 2013, are all still here. i would still expect Danny to whip them into some kind of shape and get more out of them.
like i say, only time will tell. feet firmly on the floor, after being sucked in by the charlatan that just ****** our team up then went to bury. obviously, i hope you're right.
I agree with you. It is quite normal practice for a manager to use his out-of-work time legally to tap-up possible signings for the next job to which he is appointed. I would like to think Danny has been doing this for a while. Whilst it would be illegal for a contracted manager to approach contracted players, a free-agent has no such restrictions. I wonder if Tony Woodcock is still working in Holland and whether there is another Arjan de Zeeuw lurking around there. I wonder if Danny still has the contacts in Portugal which brought us Marcelle and Bosancic? I would think that there will be more players leaving and a few more coming in. Could be an exciting time in the re-construction of the team. I do feel for those who are on their way out, as they have given us good service on the whole, but they presumably don't have the same loyalty to Danny that they had to Flitcroft and Hill. I hope that the likes of Dagnall get sorted out with clubs in this window, following the example of Wiseman. I guess a fair few of them have young families and you would not wish them to be without a club for long. Sincere thanks to those departing - hope you get sorted out straight away.
He's done it before. He's built sides from nothing and not just at Oakwell. I do think we need to start again - whilst they're all professionals it seems like there's lots of lads still at the club who were mates with Keith/Flitcroft which makes it difficult now they've left. Were they playing for us or for their mates? Same with coaching staff. Scrap it. Start again. Relegation makes that easier, mind but these two lads going now might give Danny some £££ to bring his own lads in. Liam Lawrence would be a good start - bit of a b.stard and still good enough for this level. Then let's see...
Lawrence wants to sign but needs to sort out his contract with his club in greece, hopefully know tomorrow
I really hope we can stay up this season as i would love to see Danny with a full season with a squad that he's happy with!
I hope so. We need a smaller more able squad. There were difficult decisions to be made in the summer. The players that got us out of the mess also got us into it in the first place and we needed to get shut of at least half a dozen more then.
two players are hardly a mass exodus there are at least another 4 or more who should be sent packing for me.
oh now hey... I was not being sarky there, far from it. Apologies if you think I was. I am saying lets just hope this is the beginning of the cleansing
Re: oh now hey... My bad DT, I misunderstood. I think deep down, as much as some of us like players like daggers and wiseman for how hard they've tried, we all want a change and a new 'breed' of players. As in, players who don't need to make that much effort, if they're up to the championship , their skill should be more prevalent than their 'graft'. If that makes sense..
