    BIG-MATCH FACTS

The first of 16 fourth round ties in the 127th FA Cup. As well as a place in the last 16, the winners gain £60,000 from the FA Cup prize pot.

Southend look for the victory over their Championship opponents, which would give them a club record equalling place in the fifth round.

If Barnsley are to dispose of their League One hosts at the first time of asking, they'll have to pick up a first victory away from the Oakwell in four months.

These clubs are meeting for the second season running in the FA Cup; Southend prevailed in South Yorkshire in a third round replay 12 months ago.

    The League ladder

Barnsley are 16 places higher than Southend in the league standings.

FA CUP RECORDS AND BEST PERFORMANCES

    SOUTHEND UNITED

    Current form

Won two and drawn one of the last three, scoring 10 goals, since a five-match spell of one draw and four defeats (all comps).

    Recent FA Cup performance

Appearing in the fourth round for the second season running, having failed to get this far in the previous 13 seasons.

    FA Cup fact

Took Tottenham to extra time in the quarter-final of the Carling Cup last season before Jermain Defoe scored the winner, and then drew the Premier League side again in the fourth round of the FA Cup. This time the tie was not so tight, as Spurs scored three and Southend could only reply with a Freddy Eastwood penalty.

    BARNSLEY

    Current form

Lost the last two. Their victory over Blackpool in the third round was their only win in nine games (all comps).

Not won in 10 on the road; drawn three and lost seven since beating Southampton 2-3 at St Mary's on 22 September.

    Recent FA Cup performance

Qualified for the fourth round for the first time since reaching the quarter-finals in 1999.

    FA Cup fact

Been quarter-finalists four times since 1961.

    HEAD to HEAD

    All competitions

This is the 43rd competitive meeting of these sides, who stand at 15 wins each with 12 drawn. Barnsley achieved the league double last season when they and the Shrimpers were both Championship clubs, but Southend knocked out their South Yorkshire opponents in the FA Cup.

    FA Cup

This is the third time these clubs have been drawn against each other in the FA Cup. They stand all-square, at one win a piece, with both third round ties in 1939 and 2007 going to replays.
