Tonight I had the pleasure of dining with Mr Patrick Cryne, he told me that the heating had been turned on at the correct time with regards to the temperature and the ground conditions, BUT, the problems arose with the fact that the overnight tempertature dropped lower than forcast and certain areas of the pitch ( the ponty end ) froze up and due to the fact that, that part of the pitch faces north and did not get any sun on it, it did not thaw out. The under soil heating is ineffective under -6deg and last night it dropped a long way below that, the match was in effect playable until the ref made an inspection and decreed that the area in the ponty end was dangerous. The ground staff did place covers over that part of pitch and did use heaters to try and overcome the problem, to no avail. Now all you concpiriacy theorists can make of that what you will, but that is the truth, the fact that it was called off at such a late time is actually a testament to how hard the groundstaff worked to get the game on. Just as an aside, if you turn the undersoil heating on too early and keep it on too long then you damage the turf, the roots of the turf get scorched, the soil round the roots dries out ( even if the surface soil is moist ) the underground heat encourages leaf growth which at this time of year produces weak sward growth. Simples innit, but after all that I'll go with what that guy in the pub said about us being rubbish, cos it's easy innit, innit, innit etc.
It's been reported that Sheffield Utd had their undersoil heating switched on 'all week' and their game went ahead no problem. So more like ours wasn't switched on early enough (or forgot/saving money). Reminds me of the Christmas special of the Royal Family, when the turkey hadn't defrosted. Undersoil heating, my arse.
Thanks for that, it's interesting to hear the actual facts rather than the "we're ****" theories that were prevalent on here yesterday. Sadly many will still choose to believe the bloke in the pub and slag the club off. How was PC by the way, did he discuss anything else?
So you don't believe my Pygmy aliens theory then Mario...i'm shaking my head in disbelieve as I type this!
Oh you mean Don and Barry. Nah it can't have been Don, he was too busy pi55ing on our fans kids and nutting their Mums to have been involved
Falkirk had similar problem a few years back. http://www.onefinfalkirk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24121&sid=3c29939c188cb4ce6400ee3b19d82a1b http://m.scotsman.com/news/scottish...kill_you_says_undersoil_heating_firm_1_726499 Does anyone know which type we have installed. Could it be that ours isn't that good or even installed incorrectly?
Aye, club definitely guilty of massive underestimation of the hissyfit threshold of some of its fans.
Anyone who keeps old programmes.... When we first had the undersoil heating installed. There was a peice in one of the programmes about it and what was involved with switching it on etc. I remember there was much more to consider than just switching it on. Like mentioned above it has to be switched on at the correct time or it would damage the pitch.
Sorry Mario, never met the man, just thought I'd post some b0110cks to go with the other thats been posted about the subject. Althought the stuff I posted about pitch damage is correct and some one posted a picture of the ponty end in complete shade with the groundstaff placing covers and heaters on to try and get the game on.
Re: Sorry Mario, never met the man, just thought I'd post some b0110cks to go If the original post of this thread is true, what's all this ****** about the heating being bust during the week? I was told this by an official of the club. You cannot have it both ways so who is telling the truth? Shambles....... End of is the truth Hope this helps
So we had the undersoil heating on to cover the bare min of what the forecast said, rather than covering the possibility of the weather reporters being wrong as per usual and being out on their prediction.
Re: He made it all up Well done Jay, I was getting quite embarrassed, even though I posted above that it was all b0110x, that people were still accepting what I said. Although I did say that the bit about pitch damage was correct, apparently if not used correctly it can damage the roots and make the pitch cut up much easier. Still can't get over some of the rubbish posted though, it will have cost the club thousands to call it off.
