<h3 class="headline">REDS GET THE BLUES DESPITE DANNY'S DAZZLER </h3>BARNSLEY 1 (Nardiello) LEEDS UNITED 2 (Healy, Blake) <o />Agreat goal by Danny Nardiello wasn't enough to give Barnsley a share ofthe spoils against Championship side Leeds United this afternoon atOakwell. <o />Nardiellodanced his way past three defenders to score mid-way through the secondhalf but goals from David Healy and Robbie Blake gave Leeds the win. <o />Reds boss Andy Ritchie made five changes to the side which beat Hull in an effort to give everyone a game in pre-season. <o />NickColgan replaced Scott Flinders in goal, Barry Conlon came in up frontinstead of Danny Nardiello and Jacob Burns was preferred to StephenMcPhail in midfield. In defence Paul Reid and Matt Carbon both hadminor injuries so were rested today, with Tony Vaughan and Nicky Wroecoming in to replace them. That meant Antony Kay took up the othercentral defensive position alongside Vaughan. <o />Theother change saw Barnsley line up in their new away kit of electricblue shirts with dark blue sleeves, dark blue shorts and socks. <o />Leedsmanager Kevin Blackwell also made five changes as Gary Kelly, SeanGregan, Paul Butler, Erik Bakke and David Healy all returned to thestarting line-up. There was also a place on the bench for Neil Sullivanwho had recovered from injury. <o />Itwas Barnsley who had the first chance of the game inside four minutes.Burns' free-kick was only half cleared and Nicky Wroe headed the ballback into the area. Paul Hayes seemed to be about to latch on to thechance but Jermaine Wright put in an excellent last-ditch tackle tosend the ball behind. Leeds also failed to properly clear the resultingcorner and Jacob Burns' curling shot from the corner of the area waswell saved by Bennett down low to his left. <o />AmericanEddie Lewis should have put Leeds in front just three minutes later. Across from the right was flicked on by Wright and Lewis seized on thechance but lashed his rising shot against the bar. <o />Leedsdid have the ball in the net from their next attack but Healy'sexcellent finish after a neat through ball by Lewis was wasted as theflag was up for offside. Eddie Lewis was pulling all the strings forLeeds in the early stages and he was again unlucky to see a shot fromthe edge of the area whistle into the side netting. <o />After22 minutes it was Barnsley's turn to come agonisingly close to breakingthe deadlock. Paul Hayes created space for himself around 20 yards outfrom goal. His powerful strike was deflected off a defender and seemedto be looping over Ian Bennett but the Leeds keeper managed to reach upand claw the ball away to make an excellent save. <o />Hayesagain tested Bennett with a snap shot which the keeper dealt withbefore the first goal of the game came just before the half-hour mark. <o />Thebuild-up was fortunate for Leeds as Neil Austin's excellent slidingtackle midway inside his own half only succeeded in sending the ballinto the path of David Healy who raced clear of the defence. As Colganadvanced HEALY struck a powerful shot which the Barnsley keeper managedto get an arm to but the ball spun away and nestled into the far corner. <o />Itwas then the turn of both Robbie Williams and the Leeds defence to showwhat they could do in the run up to half time. First, Williams hookedin a great cross which Gregan did well to slide behind for a corner,from which Williams headed over. Then the young left midfielder wasinvolved again as his excellent cross put Harding under pressure infront of his goal and with Shuker bearing down on him, Harding hookedthe ball over his own crossbar. <o />Righton half-time Barnsley almost got an equaliser. Great work from Burnsreleased Shuker on the right and his superb cross was headed across theface of the goal by Hayes. <o />HALF TIME <o />BARNSLEY 0 LEEDS 1 <o />After half-time Neil Sullivan replaced Ian Bennett in the Leeds goal, while Barnsley stayed with the same starting 11. <o />Asrain began to pour down both sides took time to find their feet in thesecond half and it took eight minutes before Erik Bakke had the firstshot at goal for Leeds. <o />It wasn't until the hour mark that Barnsley had their first chance as Robbie Williams' powerful 30 yard shot went well wide. <o />Thenext ten minutes though saw the game come back to life. Tony Vaughanstarted things off with a marauding run from the halfway line which sawthe big defender find himself with a shooting chance inside the area.Unfortunately his shot had the power but not the direction and wentjust over. <o />Within60 seconds Leeds were 2-0 up. David Healy found space on the right andwasn't properly closed down. His inch perfect cross gave ROBBIE BLAKEthe opportunity to angle a delicate header into the far corner givingColgan no chance at all. <o />Itcould have been worse for Barnsley two minutes later as Bakke releasedBlake into the box. The former Bradford City man finished the movebeautifully but again the flag ruled out the effort. <o />Thatwas enough for Andy Ritchie and on 65 minutes he made two changes,taking off Paul Hayes and Chris Shuker and replacing them with StephenMcPhail and Danny Nardiello. <o />Asit had on Monday the second half change did the trick as three minuteslater the Reds had pulled one back. Austin's ball to Nardiello seemedto be leading nowhere as the Leeds defence closed in around theBarnsley striker. After forcing his way past one defender thoughNARDIELLO beautifully turned away from two more Leeds players beforeangling a left footed shot in off the far post. <o />That was the cue for Kevin Blackwell to change his side around. On came Gylfi Einnerson in place of Erik Bakke. <o />On73 minutes, Robbie Williams almost got the Reds back on level terms butunder pressure from Harding, Williams shot went just wide.
