    What is the formula and answer to this question:

    Two cars are side by side and then set off in the opposite directions, each travelling for 6 miles.They then both turn a straight leftand drive for a further 8 miles, question is: how far are the cars now apart?(dunno)

    20 miles.

    Two right-angled triangles. The square of the sides that denote the distance apart is equal to the sum of the squares of the other 2 sides.

    (6x6) + (8x8) = 100

    Square root = 10

    10 x 2 = 20.
