DESPITE statements elsewhere, Barnsley Football Club have now completed the signing of midfielder Dwayne Mattis from Bury.

A fee of £50,000 has been agreed between the two clubs, which would rise to £75,000 should the Reds avoid relegation at the end of the current Coca Cola Championship season. The deal also includes a 20 per cent sell on clause.

Born in West Yorkshire, Dwayne started his professional career at Huddersfield Town, making his Terriers debut against Crystal Palace in May 1999. He went on to make 79 first team appearances for Huddersfield before joining Bury in June 2004.

A regular at Gigg Lane, he clocked up 109 first team games for the Shakers, netting 17 goals.

The 25-year-old has today (Thursday) put pen to paper on a contract keeping him at Oakwell until the summer of 2009.

The relevant paperwork has now been completed and finalised with the Football League and Football Association.

From what I can gather (call me naive if you like)

Bury announced the deal as cut and dry before signing the paperwork and sending it through.
If this is the case then BFC were right not to say anything until everything was finalised. I know people are dismissing the lad before he's kicked a ball for us but if the deal had fallen through at the last minute then BFC would be slated even more.

The Board/Management at BFC just can't win.

    "DESPITE statements elsewhere"

We can't even announce the signing of a player without going on the defensive.

There was no need to put that though...

He'd already had a dig this morning, why's he have to say something else?

    What dig?

As far as I can see, the statement this morning was just that, a statement saying that as of 9am we hadn't officially signed Dwayne Mattiss.

"As of 9.00am this morning the relevant paperwork has not been received at Oakwell from Bury Football Club and the deal has not yet been completed. It is expected that the formalities will be finalised later this morning.

www.barnsleyfc.co.uk only confirms transfer news when the paperwork is completed by both Clubs and faxed to the Football Authorities and confirmation received.

    More news shortly."

The new statement is to say that despite announcements elsewhere saying that the deal had been done yeaterday, he had infact completed the move today once the FA had confirmed the relevant paperwork was in place.
