Albeit he was probably an option as back-up, it must mean they're close to securing an incoming transfer / loan. Surely they wouldn't further deplete the squad otherwise......
Bizarre. Gone from what must’ve been almost the biggest squad in the league to probably the smallest. Been doing a bit of maths just throwing figures around in my head of how much we generate in match day revenue versus the amount of players we’ve got off the wage bill & given most of our revenue comes from Sky I wouldn’t mind betting we’re better off now than we were pre-COVID. Thiam, Radlinger, Pinillos, Brown, Diaby, Wilks, McGeehan, Sibbick & Ritzmaier all gone who all signed or renewed their contracts on good money when we were a championship club as well as Dougall who although he was signed in league one was brought in as a first teamer. There’s got to be at least 30k a week saved there & that’s been cautious given a few of them will have been on at least 5k a week.
That's £1.56m over a year. I think we'll lose more than that over a year on season ticket sales and away tickets alone. I think it was also common knowledge we were desperately trying to get some of those names out of the door in January to fund the signings of Ritz, Sollbauer, Ludewig, so we've probably incurred costs from January to June on players we didn't want to or weren't budgeting for, just to support the January recruitment. Sponsorship and corporate will be decimated too.
Great move for Wolfe. He was realistically only going to feature in a handful of games this year so will benefit more being at Notts County than with us I think. Leaves us looking as short as ever but got to hope another midfielder is coming in who would feature in more games than Wolfe. Christie-Davies as well being ignored in Doug's tweet.
Well Brittain is a full back and we've been told Aitchison is going straight out on loan. But I take your point. You don't lose much from a squad other than emergency back up if you move on a player who would only feature (not start) in a single digit total of games.
There absolutely must be at least one more midfielder coming in now. Even though Wolfe is a fringe player needing to slowly build up experience, you couldn't possibly consider letting him go with just 5 central midfielders at the club. One of which wants to go, one has just arrived and the previous coach said he wasn't ready for first team football, one thats been banished to the u23s and trying to get rid while the other two have only started what, a dozen games between them? In normal times it would be a positive move for him to gain experience, but it won't be unless we get bodies in that challenge for the first team on merit, not just because theres nobody else to pick.
