Lovely lads, perfect for any young lass to take home to meet their mum and their gran...but as League One centre halves? Garbage. Too nice, too soft. Spent most of the game giving Billy Sharp 3 yards of space and looked all at sea for every set piece.
Mawson a Division 2 defender. Nyatanga, gone backwards from his heady days of being in the Wales team.
Here's me thinking it was other way round, Nyatanga being the constant that is. He is the least comfortable of all our players when on the ball.
Have to agree. No wonder he looks nervous when he gets the ball, he must look round and think, i don't want to pass to him, he's ****, then he ends up getting caught out by hanging on to it too long. I'm sure most of us have played with poor players who you just don't want to give the ball to, even if it's your only option. Still, it's only a game.
It could well be the weakest centre half pairing I've seen since watching the club. There might have been worse, but I can't think of any off hand. And If we swap either for Roberts, for my money we look even worse. Nyatanga can perform well at the side of an experienced centre half. He proved it last season at the side of Ramage or Cranie. Other than the aberration that was the Crawley game we barely conceded any goals in the second half of last season, kept about a dozen clean sheets and Nyatanga was in fine form. Now he's had to step up to be the man, to be the experience and to be the organiser, he can't do it. We can argue all day long that at 27 he should be able to do it, but the simple fact is he can't. If it's not in his nature, we can't force it in to him. I dare say Mawson, who looks very comfortable on the ball, would also perform better alongside a natural leader and a bit of a nasty bugger like Ramage. Roberts too, whose biggest weakness is his inexperience at this level. But pair any two of the three together and it's a nightmare.
Its a nighmare alright yet we plough on stubbornly refusing to a damn thing about stemming the rot. More loans anyone?
We brought in Long. That is doing something to address the problem. As the transfer window is closed, bringing in loan players is the only way to give us alternatives at centre half.
More loans = trying to use a plaster to stop an Arterial bleed = failure. Deal with the root problem, act with purpose to stop the lifeblood gushing out, and begin the recovery process
So, according to you, the solution to the problems we have at centre half is to not bring any players in. I know you want the manager sacked, there are tribes in the South African rainforest yet to be discovered by the outside world who know you want the manager sacked, but even if we do that, the centre half pairing will still not be good enough. The only way to address the problem, with Johnson in charge or someone else, is to bring in a centre half on loan. But you don't want us to do that.
What tribes are you referring to ? The natives at Oakwell are the one's who are restless. Gunna have to watch out I don't get a blow dart in my gut at the next match. Just remind me how many loans we have? How much money is the club haemorrhaging paying the likes of Wilkinson, isgrove etc ? Lets bring in a centre half but for gods sake send some of the others back where they belong. Lloyd Isgrove WHY ?
Believe me, there are no South African rain forests and no tribes in South Africa yet to be discovered.
And that means we didn't need a centre half? Again, that means we didn't need a centre half? Finally, you've admitted it, we needed a centre half. That's good, 'cos that's what we did. WTF has that got to do with needing a centre half? Have mistakes been made? Yes. Find me someone who will argue differently and I'll give you a rainbow. Does that mean we didn't need a centre half? No, it didn't.
Sounds like Mr Jay has a few tribes at the bottom of his garden! Their surviving on the magic mushrooms
"Find me someone who will argue differently and I'll give you a rainbow" We need more than a rainbow to get us out of this mess fella! more magic mushrooms anyone ? You do get your keks in a bit of a twist !
Mr Jay = the supposed font of all knowledge yet the problems at our club are only minor! You said it my friend "There are problems at Barnsley FC. Of course there are, we wouldn't be in the relegation zone in League 1 if everything was hunky dory. The manager and the CEO aren't doing anything wrong. If they are, it's minor." Absolute tripe
Instead of just throwing money at the problem by bring in loans we should be looking at the root of the problem which is Johnson. Mawson & Roberts both had championship interest & were good for us for at least a month of the season, Nyatanga has spent most of his career in the championship & some fans voted him player of the season last year. All 3 are getting progressively worse under Johnson.
