Mawson out, Kevin Long in??

I wonder... Rumours on twitter and other media outlets seem to suggest there is a strong interest from a number of clubs - Newcastle, Leeds, Bristol City!!

I wonder if we will keep Alfie if this interest is strong/true??

If he does go would we want Long back in as a replacement??

Hope he does stay mind you, but this summer has gone too well so far in keeping the promotion squad together (in terms of our own players re-signing or not leaving)!!

Hope Newcastle get him if he does go but I'd rather him stay.

 

In the current transfer climate he is worth quite a few million. Replacing him would be very difficult in my opinion, a ball playing Center halts are hard to find.

 

Even harder for us to keep them!

 

Wouldn't blame him for wanting to better his career but I'd be gutted if he decided to take a sideways step to the South West.

I don't think he'll go just yet though as there's no way Patrick would let him go unless it's for big money, he is a class act and will only get better.

Would love to get Kevin Long in as well though, definitely need more competition in defence.

 

2.25m is rumoured to have been offered by a 'unnamed' championship club...

Hoping its all a load of b*llocks as I would prefer to keep him, BUT what do we think we could get Long for if he does go?

We need more than just Mawson and Roberts to cope this season.

 

Like i said in my original post i would prefer to keep him (Mawson), and you are right having him and Long would be ideal with Robbo coming on/playing his part as he develops championship experience...

 

We don't need to sell so time to hold firm for a change - give him a year then see where we are up to

It's looked obvious for a while now that Mawson wants out. LJ wouldn't keep wasting his time bidding for him unless he'd been given assurances that it's worth trying. Can't have been good for Alfie losing the captaincy, but that was the turn around in our form. He had a season at Brentford, season on loan at Wycombe and season as ours. He's 22?? and could be on his 4th team in four seasons already. He's not exactly in an hurry to play down rumours in the press or on his social media. I think the silence is deafening.

As for Kevin Long he did really well for us in division three, but was loaned to a championship side and was part of their team that got them relegated. Bad team? Bad form? Do better for us at the same level?

 

Problem with waiting a year is we will then be in the same position as with Hourihane & Winnall. Next season would be Alfie's final year of his contract if he joined on a 3yr deal last season.

 

if we lose him he will be hard to replace. What would a replacement ball playing Championship centre half cost?. That is the fee we need for Alfie.

£6m seems about the right kind of price. I seem remember a certain Harry Maguire going for £3.5m as a league one defender who'd never done owt.

Just this. If we sell it has to be for no less than £4m. Bournemouth just bought a Liverpool reserve for £6m & as you say,Harry Maguire was sold for 3.5m as. League 1 player. Is he any better than Mawson??????????
