A Barnsley fan died yesterday. Max Hewitt. He was 79.

He never saw them play, but he watched for the results in the paper and he was always up for a football chat when we met.

    "Did they win overnight?"
"They aren't going down again are they?"
"Is the new manager any good?"

And he really did care about the Reds. I often reflected about his support of Barnsley FC. Of course, it started because I am a BFC supporter and I am his daughter's partner. I thought that it was his way of making me feel at home in his family. But it wasn't like he just wanted to be nice. He was that way. He lived in the lives of all of his family and many friends. He was a lovely bloke and a Reds supporter.

    Think this

He could have worked in the pits in the Barnsley area
Retired and a couple of months or a couple of years later he had died
I knew a few that did this
    No life
But he didn't do that.......he lived in Aussie land
So he must have had, must have had - a good un
