and rightly so I would say. The guy has proved that when the chips are down he is tactically inept. But I seriously think that our problems run a lot deeper than that. Our top players are overhyped, overrated and overpaid. The Croats tonight were light years ahead of us in technical ability, we couldn't get the ball off them. No Morinho, Scholari or Capello can change that overnight I'm afraid.
Our game is in dissarray right through to grass roots level. We brag of the Prem being the best league in the world but that's only because of the top foreign players who are raking in the cash over here. Who of our own can seriously be labelled "world class", Rooney - yes, but who else? Please don't say Gerrard cos boy was he awful tonight!
I've always been very patriotic when it comes to our national side, but our failure doesn't hurt like it used to. A draw or win tonight would have just papered over the huge cracks in our game. Some big decisions need to be taken at the very top but I'm not holding my breath.

Could be a pivotal moment in English football history

Time to take the bull by the horns and address the fundamental problems with the national sport...or alternatively employ another uninspiring man(ager?) and carry on regardless.

Unfortunately the FA is run primarily by financiers with little long term interest in football

Not saying he isn't int'l class, he's the best we've got without doubt. But that says it all doesn't it? A truly world class midfielder doesn't charge around like a headless chicken, giving the ball away at every opportunity, overhitting passes etc.

When all the players are fit England have a good squad on paper..

I thought that 4:4:2 with experienced players would see a draw at least. The second half proved it works cos we won it 2:1.

McClaren gambled when it just needed a nerdlinger who plays Football Manager to pick team and tactics.
