The lack of width on the right hand side was a big problem. Berry was a CM playing RM and Brown a CB playing RB Ryan McLaughlin is just the player we need I feel as he would have provided much better width
Disagree, thought brown and berry looked good down the right... Both put in dangerous balls... Brown is right sided defender, he can play fullback or centre back... Agreed berry was played in unfamiliar role but he did well. I thought weak link in defence yesterday was Crainie, didn't read the game at all and twice left his man to leave us expose at the back... As I have stated before Crainie signed as utility player, but at Coventry he was their right full back... He stated his barnsley career in defensive midfield role... I would say he is a poor mans David Luis (without the hair)... Talented utility player, has many attributes of a defender and good on the ball to but lapse in concentration make him vulnerable at the back... A far better full back or defensive midfield IMHO
We lacked width all game down the right, will we play 2 wingers when Treacey is fully fit and Jennings back from his 3 match ban
Problem yesterday as Danny said was composure in final 3rd... I like young rose but he was bullied out outmuscled all game yesterday Winnall made some good runs and got shots off, but looked isolated and shots failed to test their keeper... IMHO if Lita had played alongside him it would have been a different story. IMHO we still need another striker, ferenczi type would be class but more likely a Marcus Haber... Slow and sluggish he may have looked, and not best finisher but I thought he would have been a good squad player he won everything in the air, and had great link up play. target man and provider rather than goalscorer... I believe we have lads capable of getting goals In previous seasons I felt we have had too many target men and now we have none, vice versa we have strikers,
Agree brown adds no width whatsoever and didn't,t go past a player once so your wrong he ain't a full back and never will be,desperately in need of a full back with pace.
Agreed. A McLaughlin type and a centre forward who can compete in the air would take us on leaps and bounds.
Marcus Haber is a terrible footballer and I can't believe you're even suggesting him. Wilson let him go after 1 game and I think everyone who saw that game would have too.
I'd go to buy him. Hasn't featured for Liverpool in any of their pre-season games and seems to be in no one else's radar so 200-300 grand on 3 year deal.
Thought Brown looked like what he is a centre half playing right back and will add little offensively though thus might not be too necessary when we have 2 wingers playing. McLaughlin would be a great signing as he offers real attacking threat. With the strikers we have we need to play fast accurate football to feet. Can't see us going for any sort of big lad to lump it to up front and thank god for that.
McLaughlin would be the ideal signing. We do look light in the squad for the right side of the pitch. For now I'd consider switching Brown and Cranie.
I think Michael Higdon would have been a far better option. Seen the highlights of the United vs Bristol match from yesterday, and he bullied the Bristol defenders. He won a lot in the air and scored a fine header. That said, not sure our budget would have stretched to all three of Higdon, Lita and Treacy
I'd prefer the full backs to do their job at the back and make us more solid there. We supposedly have the best two wingers in the division, so it isn't necessary to have defenders bombing forward as well. I wouldn't say no to McLaughlin, mainly as cover for Treacy though. That's the position he was most effective for us last season.
Tommy Wright then? As for the lads who played down the right yesterday, they tried, but it was a long way from being good enough. A proper RB is essential and a winger, whether that be Treacy I dont know, he looked an out and out left winger to me, not so sure he'd be effective on the right
