REDS new boy Anthony McParland has set his sights firmly on a place in the starting eleven after arriving at Oakwell this week. The former Celtic winger penned an 18-month contract and could get his first look at League One as a Reds player at Tranmere Rovers tomorrow. Speaking to the media this afternoon, the youngster said: "I am not here to make up the numbers and I want to get my place in the team. That is what I have come to Barnsley to do although I know I will have to work hard to achieve that. "I will play anywhere to get a game really although I prefer to be wide on the right. Hopefully I can get some good crosses into the box and put goals on a plate for the strikers. That is what I am here for and I aim to deliver for the front men. "This club is going places. I have been here for just over a week now and I have seen enough to know that we can achieve something this season. It is a competitive league and on their day any team can beat any other so we have to keep winning and keep picking up points. "Once you are up in the top six you have to make sure you keep grinding out the performances and picking up the points to stay there. That is what we have to do".
He speaks well Comes across as a very confident, determined and ambitous player. You can't have enough of them in my opinion. I have high hopes for him considering Bradford tried to sign him after the reserve game he played for us against them and from what Ritchie has said.
