How can our website say we "missed out" on Chopra when our own chairman said we hadn't approached him ? Cannot believe we didn't even offer him a contract. 20 goals a season strikers are hard to come by so i would like to know who they will bring in for that. Losing Mcphail is a loss also. There was a reason he came 3rd in our player of the year awards. Hope his wife enjoys moving 6 hours away from Harogate for the first time in her life.

It would have made no difference........

Cardiff have got in their by going through a loop-hole as such, and offered him high wages and signing on fee etc

    RE: what loophole?

the loophole as in they dont have to pay a fee for macca so threfore can use what money they might have used for a transfer fee on higher wages and bonuses etc
as for chopra, dave jones has £2 million to spend from cameron jerome's sale so therefore can afford easily the £500,000 compensation that they apparently will pay newcastle, whereas we probably cant

"Hope his wife enjoys moving 6 hours away from Harogate for the first time in her life." - Well I'm sure he'll have discussed that with her before he agreed to the move….besides she'll be able to fly up if it's that much of a problem for her.
Just keep being negative mate, you were the same in the run in to the season, the same before and during the playoffs….we seemed to thrive on it!

Oh, and when has Chopra scored 20 goals a season? Is this like Nardiello scoring 20 last season?
Yes, he'd have been a good signing for us, 20 goals a season? Who knows. But if his wage demands were outside the pay structure for the club then that's that. Remember that clubs also have to meet the league requirements now for their wages in line with turnover.

    RE: what loophole?

Well, the £500k is probably a transfer fee / back-hander to Newcastle.

As when his contract runs out, and he was free to talk to everyone, I doubt Newcastle would have got £500k in a tribunal, Probably nearer £350-400k. Clever really.

I would say that Chopra was 'bought' for £500k, rather than the 'Compensation' was £500k. Remember Fabregas only cost Arsenal £1m in compo from Barca.

i thought it was just league one and two that had to meet the wages in line with turnover. i read that in the play off final programme i think,

You sound very frustrated, do you have issues outside of football that are bothering you?

I'm glad we didn't go for Chopra because we can get someone as good as him for 500,000, but we should have offered Mcphail whatever wages he's getting at Cardiff because we are now going to have to pay 500,000 to replace him which we haven't got.
Its going to be a long hard season

We will get a better player than Macca for a fraction of the cost.

McPhail had made his mind up to leave regardless of the play offs.

It was quite clear when he made the humbug statement about showing ambition.
Perhaps he thinks that his kindly Uncle Pete is the human embodiment of ambition rather than a fantasist who is living the dream like a man with others money.

I have no doubt who will be laughing if Cardiff get off to a bad start- and it will be the fat white haired man who seems to still have a reputation in football despite his alledged profligacy.

    RE: what loophole?

Yup, although he was only 16 and never played for Barca, most of the media in Spain had him tipped for big things - just like Joe Cole. So it was never really a gamble - Arsenal offered him 1st team chances - he was in Barca's 3rd team.

So when you see what conclusions tribunals can achieve, you realise just how much over the odds Cardiff have paid for him. It's like Leeds Utd all over again.
