Just got the 3 DVD set of Sailor, the BBC series set on the Ark Royal back in the days when the ships were made of wood and the men of steeel, Well..... not really but you get my meaning. Happy times., you just didn't realise at the time how downhill your life would go after those heady, single, booze and lust filled days like a Thomas Cook tour and a pay slip at the end. Everyone loved that ship after the series but the thing was held together by baling wire and gaffer tape half the time. How it got another commission after that one beggars beleif, but muggins went back for that one as well. I spent the first trip on the Aerial Section being a Radio Electrician at the time, the IFF Dustbin at the very top was not a great place to be in a force 6 in the middle of the Atlantic, the thing was held up by lots of steel but still whipped like a whippy thing. The 965 "bedsteads" forward and aft had Pot inserts that had to be kept clear of Salt (Yeah,,,,, difficult being the environment huh) But we kept that till we got into port, was a magical place for oggling the local talent specially when in Florida or other such warm places. Halcyon Days. Back to reality,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Ho Hum
