The one i most looked forward to was Halifax in 78/79 due to the euphoria of a certain Mr. Clarke. I was not disappointed either- a 4-2 victory followed by another four. Usual stuff after that - cameras turn up, along with over 12,000 folk, and we lose to miss out on beating a club record. However; the season was phenomenal (Y) 79/80 - Biggest disappointment of my life! Walked out early whilst smug Wednesday Barstewards were everywhere chanting "Wednesday". 80/81 - Portsmouth at home. We lost 2-1 and Trevor Aylott threw his shirt at the bench when substituted. Bit of a hoo-har on the Spion Kop and we even got a mention on Match Of The Day for the troubles - 16 arrests apparently. 97/98 - Say no more! We're in it - never thought of experiencing this one. Did! And so on...... Players died a death early doors in my opinion, being overawed, but the second part of the season proved we could maybe have survived if we'd entered the campaign with that spirit. After all, we ended up in the quarter finals of the FA Cup. Just a few memories.............
my earliest memory is Clive Allen scoring for west ham in a 0-1 defeat on the telly too! We got our own back in the 4th rd of the FA cup though - 4-1 rambo hat trick!

RE: Best I can remember There's one that slipped the mind (Y) Overcrowded Tarn end with extras put in the stand to the right. I can also recall 76/77 (i think?) and watching the video printer on the box and we won at brentford 1-0.
The game the Ponte End opened!!!, The Prem never been to any game where the atmosphere was as good as that electrifying
97/98 was my first full season, so I remember that one, Home to West Ham, unfortunate to lose. Boiling hot as per. 98/99 home to West Brom - de Zeeuw scored two. Also remember the second season in Division two clear as day when we could easily have gone outta business in the summer and we won 1-0 with a Dean Gorre penalty.
and another.. Football League Championship Barnsley 2 (2) - 1(1) Derby Rammell Rammell Pembridge on 13-08-1994
that Derby game was a good 'un, as was..... as was a 2-1 win over Brighton after being 1-0 down at half time (at least I think this was the opening day, Ian Banks put in a peach of a cross for our equaliser, though not sure who scored, maybe Steve Cooper). One of the most disapointing was a 1-1 draw at home to 10-man West Brom for whom Kevin Donovan equalised in the last minute.
Didn't we once stick 5 past Derby on opening day ? Plummer hat trick ? Or was that just an early season game ?
My Favourite Was the prem obviously, and then when we beat oldham a think it was when ponty opened, but the atmosphere against colchester when administration fetched us all together was also a great opening day, when we had one pre-season game a week before the new season, might have been better this season then nobody could moan!
RE: My Favourite Beat Colchester 1-0, Gorre penalty, they missed a penalty. Team chucked together by Gudjon. Remember Paul Walker on Radio Sheff pre-season saying he 'really feared' for us. (witfalseconcernart)
Post office lads singing at Doyle for the full 90 minutes and it was baking hot.

RE: Best I can remember Agreed
Loved it. From driving down the A14, seeing a WBA giving us all sorts of gestures due to our BFC scarf/flag (I was 11 at the time)...then seeing same fan on the way home not looking quite so smug. ****!
Seeing a team full of unknowns (in the majority) play like world-beaters. Seeing Clint Marcelle run rings around their defence.
Quality day out. My first real away game as well

RE: Best I can remember That has to be my favourite start to a season ! Decided to go at the last minute, great weather, great atmosphere, great football ! A Baggie said to me walking back to our cars "What a great game, you lot were brilliant" - how little did he know But what made it even more special, was the next few games culminating in that win at Maine Road ! Will we ever see the likes again ? That's what makes the first game of the season so special !
RE: Best I can remember The run we had at the start of that season was awesome. We played some brilliant football. Loved going to Maine Road, felt terrified walking through Manchester from where we parked to the ground, but managing to beat them (and making them look pretty ordinary) was quality.
Looks like I picked a very good first season to start going to every game!

God, how old am i, remember all them....still what memories, WBA away was a good one in the promotion season to the prem....happy days(pint) (pint)

RE: Best I can remember It was proper scary coming out after the match - no segregation at all ! And walking down the streets looking for the car didn't help either !
